My online dating waste of time...

Cheryl,

I have done the online dating thing, with some very interesting results and the guy I've been dating for almost a year now, was someone I met online.  He has been supportive of my WLS process and thinks all that I do in my quest for healthier living is great.

My take on the online dating thing is, it is very much like going into a candy shop, I started going on about 4+ years ago, some of the same people are still on some of the sites I used to belong to which tells me a lot about the nature of it.  Yet, I know of several people who have met their mates there, so I guess what it boils down to is when the time is ready you will meet the right person for you, whether there or elsewhere, just be prepared to experience all kinds of people in the process, you will develop a thicker skin, find that you have better self esteem and deeper sense of humor as you go along for sure and don't limit yourself to any of the possible ways there are to meet people.

Hugs, Laureen

My Mantra is that I do not determine my success by the number hanging in my closet, nor will I let the scale determine that success either. . .  It is through trial and error I will continue to grow and succeed. . .  Laureen

I met my husband of 8 years on-line --- back when AOL provided access to Love Connection for free.  He's a wonderful man who totally supports me.  He loved me pre-WLS, loves me thru this journey, and I have no doubt will love the thin me that will emerge in the next year.  I was lucky, I know

I have been doing online dating since last May.  It can be a lot of work for little results, but it can also be fun.  I try not to take it too seriously...in other words, if  it seems to be going along well and then it fizzles or they disappear for no reason, I don't get upset about it.  I chalk it up to experience (and sometimes a free meal or drinks LOL...although, I do always offer to pay...one time I even INSISTED  LOL)  As for the ones I have met in person, they have all been very nice men, most didn't have any potential what so ever, but they were enjoyable evenings.  I have run into one really creepy guy, but I learned how to be really good at ignoring him and when the membership to that site ended, I didn't sign up again....the site itself really wasnt worth it overall.  Some men I have talked to and had great conversations with, but had no interest in meeting them in person after talking.  I met a guy a few weeks ago (the one I gave my skittles to....I talked about him in one of my "sugar is the devil" posts).  We had a great time and have texted back and forth a few times since then, so we will see if it goes anywhere.

I guess I have just learned to have fun with it and not to take it personally if someone isnt interested or stops responding to me.  I enjoy exploring the possibilities that are out there.
