Hello everyone.. well here I am back at work. No surprise there.  I think Pam had off last night.. she's  probably catching up on sleep! At least I hope she is..

I have nothing planned for today besides work and fitting in some exercise video/DVD  with my daughter.  I think we are going to try Richard Simmons tonight.  That should be entertaining at least!!! LOL!

Other than that, it will be very boring day.

Nope...didn't have off last night...

And I also didn't have any KY jelly for the foot that was shoved up my butt while working last night....I'll rant about my night in a moment....

I will however, be catching up on sleep tonight through saturday night as I have off, except for a class on Thursday, until Sunday night :)

Hey Pam, so sorry you had such a rough night.  Unfortunately, I have been in the ER with mom in the past on nights like you describe.  She has, on more than one occasion been put out in the hall due to no room at the inn.  I felt bad for the nurses and other staff who had to deal with such chaos.  So, I definitely feel for you.  Enjoy your days (nights) off and get the rest you deserve!!

Aw Liz.  :0(  How about a promise to call Dr. Brader if you get no assistance from the PCP???  Pretty please?  You need to get this better soon and get your protein and fluid intake back up.  We love you girl, get better!

Liz & Pa,

Liz, feel better soon!!!!  If nothing else, perhaps the doc can give you some zofran to help with the nausea and keeping fluids down.

I generally try not to complain - but I am gonna outright B*&%H this morning.  Work sucked.  BIG time.  Now...most of the assignments are a 4:1 ratio (4 patients to one nurse) except for one assignment which is 5:1.  Sunday night I had the 5:1...no big deal.  Last night I had the 5:1 as well.  Again, no big deal.  The WHOLE ER was busy.  However...about an hour into my shift they pulled one of my patients into the hallway and gave me 'another' patient - which happens to every nurse from time to time.  Except that put me at 6 and everyone else at 4.  Oh, and that "one" patient was a little girl....AND her mom with identical symptoms....so I had 7 patients...and everyone else still had 4.  Fine.  Got through all that....actually did REALLY well....got rid of them...down to 5....had alot of critical patients...did fine....actually went into another nurses room who had a more critical patient than me to help her with that....then I had "inpatients" (patients who were admitted but there were no beds upstairs....) so then I had to do all of the floor nursing orders too....fine....so at 6:30 they pull one of my patients out of their rooms into the hallway AGAIN....plus I had just discharged another one of my patients...and AT THE SAME TIME they put two patients into those "empty" rooms - both of which needed a full intake/blood work/IV/meds PLUS still take care of my other 4 patients and the one in the hallway.  I was PISSED.  I looked on the screen - not a damn other nurse had more than 4 patients....my "pod leader" was AWESOME however and started one of the two ambulance patients for me...and then went to the charge nurse to go to bat for me asking WHY I got killed.  Now the charge nurse is someone I have worked with often and I think is generally a good person.  Her response?  "It's time for us to see how much she can handle"  Well my leader went nuts and told her that I can handle it all...but just because I can doesn't mean I should have to.  I know the "testing" always comes...but really?  On a night when EVERYONE was busy?  And a two night in the "heavy" assignment?

Ok...I'm done.

Now....on to today.  I need to exercise.  I will do one of my new DVDs.  Haven't figured out which one.

I also need to make a decision.  My old job called me today (perfect timing as I left my new job in tears this morning....) and offered me almost twice what I am making to come back and work "per diem" which is basically whenever the hell I feel like it.  I've been talking to Brian about getting a perdiem job for some extra cash and because (now....don't laugh to hard) I actually don't like being home 4 nights a week.  That job is about 10 mins from my parents house...so I could always sleep there if I wanted to.  Plus, it would be easier to pick up a job there as opposed to learning yet another new hospital.  The catch...I need to get HIRED by the 30th of this month because there is a clause stating if I come "back" within 3 mos (which is 1/30) I don't have to go through all the orientation BS.  So...depending on what Brian says (I do want to discuss it with him, first) I need to fill out an application and call my old boss and let her know to look for it so I don't get lost in the shuffle.

I also need to start laundry.  How does it pile up so fast???  I'm sure I will be doing it for the next couple of days, a load or two here and there.

And then there is dinner.  Although I have decided to take the semi easy way out and make breakfast for dinner...eggs...bacon....maybe even some biscuits.

I may also play around with a sugar free cream puff recipie.  If I don't do that today I will do it on one of my other days off.

And I need to make a few phone calls.

That should be enough to put me out tonight, no??

Pam,

Sorry about your night, but AWESOME news about the per diem work.  I would take it and run with it.  My best friend's husband does per diem work and the pay checks are INCREDIBLE sometimes.  He's a critical care nurse.  I know you have to talk to Brian, but I would totally go for it.

Good luck!!

Karen
