Digestable Protein
Sorry I don't have an answer for your question, I was wondering where you purchased the protein shots. I have been trying to find a protein drink I can tolerate and doesnt taste disgusting. I just bought Walmarts chocolate protein powder and managed to drink a glass but it was gross. Anyone have any ideas for tolerable protein drinks I would really appreciate it. I live in Philly.
My favorite "concoction" was this:
Nectar Cappuchino flavor + No sugar added chocolate carnation instant breakfast + mil**** in a blender it tasted kind of like a mocha cappuchino shake. Sometimes I would omit the ice and make it luke warm in the microwave for an evening drink.
The protein shots you can google under "new whey" or "profect" I personally do not like the taste of them. HOWEVER...the new whey is 42gm of protein and the profect is 25gm of protein and they are 3 ounces. So it's a few swigs and you are done. Especially early out I viewed it as medicine. Now I can get all my protein in from food - however - when I couldn't do that I knew I needed my protein and that was the only way to do it.
I forget the brand, but there is also an unflavored protein powder on the market as well. Use that with milk and fruit all blended up and it's pretty good too.
Think of adding things like frozen fruit, sugar free syrups, peanut butter, no sugar added carnation instant breakfast, whatever it takes. Also...someone once told me that they would take one scoop of protein powder and add small amounts of it to drinks throughout the day. That way they got 25gm of protein or whatever throughout the course of the day and it didn't taste as bad.
I have successfully added the unflavored and some vanilla protein powder into instant pudding without to much of a change.

OMG yes! Many many of us do!! You will notice it much more than anyone else. Dr. Pupkova once told me "I've never had a patient go completely bald on me" although I swore I was gonna be the first one to prove that theory wrong.
A few tips:
Make sure you are hitting protein goals
Biotin (Soem people swear by it. I started taking these supplements about 3 weeks after surgery...and continued until about 4mos out. At 3 mos out my hair started falling out all over the place, so I then stopped taking the biotin because it obviously wasn't doing crap for my hair)
Don't pull your hair back as much as possible. The stress on it will "help" it fall out
Use a comb when wet and then try to avoid brushing it when dry.
When I tell you there were clumps of hair in my drain every morning I am not exaggerating. Due to work I HAD to pull my hair back every night...and there was a miniscule patch where I was "bald" at the base of my neck from pulling the hair up.
Many seem to think it lasts from 3-7 mos. or about that. I think mine lasted till about 7 1/2 mos. Actually - at that time I went and got a hair cut because my hair was just over all unhealthy (split ends from before surgery etc) and that seemed to REALLY help. So keep in touch with a good hair stylist and have them help you out as well.
Good luck!!

Hi.. I have gotten samples of Unjury and Chike. So far, I liked the chocolate from both. I mixed it with soy milk. I also liked the banana unjury. I just add the soy milk and some ice and it's like a milkshake.>> no after taste either. I hope I still like them after the surgery. I'll try to get other samples before I buy big.
The verdict is still out on that one.
I've been told anything over 25 is wasted. Then I've been told there's no way to figure it out. Then I've been told it doesn't get wasted at all. All different stories from different people (medical professionals, nutritionists, etc)
I personally don't think it matters that much as long as you are not using the protein bullets as an exclusive way to get your protein in. And Dr. Pupkova will tell you that she wants you getting your protein from food as much as possible as early as possible. She's not a big fan of bars, shakes, drinks, shots, etc.

As Pam mentioned there is no definitive answer on what the body can "handle" or "process" in one meal for protein. However, the rule of thumb my surgeon and most of the nutritionists at Barix agree on is 25 max at one sitting - to count it towards your daily total. Makes sense to me as I think anything that we overburden the body with will potentially not get processed due to the maximum ability of the body (no definitive answers on this either). I stick to 25 as much as possible.
