Hello Kari,

It's been too long.  Got caught up with my mother's recovery, and didn't realize your date was so soon.  Do you want to get together for dinner one night this week.  Just to talk?  I bet Jen would join us.  Are you out of school yet for winter break?

One of the best things about having your surgery at Barix is these folks really know what they are doing!  They have it down to a science.  You will be given a list of vitamins/minerals to take, they test your blood on a regular basis...  They keep an eye out for the things you are worried about.

I have talked to one co-worker who has fibromyalgia now, and she does contribute it to her WLS...  but she can't say that she wouldn't have had it even without her surgery...

From personal experience, I have not gotten nausea since I was 15 weeks out.  I have only gotten sick 4 or 5 times in over 18 months...  I know Gina and Lorie have worried about having their weightloss continue after they were ready for it to stop, but it seems like for both of them, just like Pam, thier bodies knew when to stop...  I still have 40 lbs to get to my "personal" goal, and have accepted that I might not "get" there, but I am still thrilled to be 115 lbs lighter than I was in June 2007!

My mother is over 60...  and she said recently if she had known how easy her recovery would have been, she would have done this years ago.  She was very scared...  had never had surgery before in her life!  But she knew from watching me that it was the right thing to do...

You worked very hard to get approved for this surgery.  And I would be more worried if you weren't scared!  You have Ruthie to worry about...  and with the things that happened with your boyfriend's father...  I know he is worried about you going under the knife and that can't help your mental state...

Maybe we should take a poll...  who would do it all again in a heartbeat?

Yes, yes and YES!

This is finals week and I have to give a final on Wednesday evening, but we could possibly plan for one of the other evenings.

I'll text you tomorrow and we can call and make plans!

Thank you...I think I need a night with like minded people.

Hi Karrie,

The others really have already given you excellent advice and shared many experiences specific to each of them and there really isn't much more I can add.  This is a very personal decision, which only you can (and should) make.  The really long-term effects that any of this can have on our organs is not entirely clear.  This was a concern of mine as well.  But many of the concerns you expressed can be greatly minimized provided you keep up with the vitamins that Dr. Pupkova will tell you about post-op.  And speaking of Dr. Pupkova, she is an incredible surgeon and a very special person.  If you haven't already realized this, and if you do go through with your surgery, you will soon learn how wonderful she truly is.  Personally, I can't predict what will be 15 years from now, but I can tell you that I have not experienced any of the other issues you are referring to.  I think you may need to do some serious thinking/weighing of pros and cons to determine what is the most appropriate decision for you.  You mention in one of your responses that food is not really the issue and that you don't have any real health problems either.  So what are your issues?  What are your reasons for wanting this surgery?  In your mind, do they outweigh the fears you have?  These are the things you really must think about and ask yourself.

If you have any questions at all about Barix or about Dr. Pupkova, please do not hesitate to ask and I am happy to help you in any way that I can.

Hope this helped a little,
Lisa :)
