The good, the bad and the ugly

I don't  mind sharing.

I have been having reoccuring pain in the area of my upper left quadrant (did I spell that right?).  Right under/behind my ribs on my left side.  It happens right after eating, but not all the time.   I haven't been very good about writing down what I have eatten before this happens.  Been happening about a year....at most a year and a half, but is becoming more frequent.  The biggest, most painful episode was the day we helped Norm move and that was August of last year.  Its not a sharp pain like gas, but more of a doubled over from a punch kind of thing.....feels like a straw that has been bent and the food gets caught in the narrowed part.....a kink, a pulling, a traffic jam.....definately doubles me over.  Might be scar tissue...a narrowing...don't really know right now.  The next time it happens, I am to go to the ER so they can get pictures of it while it is occuring.  The problem with that is it will probably pass before I ever get in to see someone....It ususally doesnt last more than an hour.

The pants part was great. . . 

I've had that test a couple of times and it is not fun, even when your insides are normal, though I will say the the prep for a colonospy, to me, is worse then what you went through today.  I had both experiences within days of each other, back when I was "normal" (lol), because of severe anemia and them trying to find where the blood loss was coming from.  Anyway, take them seriously when they say to drink lots of fluids, the first time I did not like drinking lots of fluids and I got all backed up and it was a very uncomfortable few days and when I went, it was painful, I'm sure you get the meaning. . .  so drink up girl!  Glad for the most part the unpleasantness of this is behind you.

I had a colonoscopy preop and I will take that any day over this....I will do anything for a bit of anesthesia LOL....I love that stuff!!

I am going to fill my water bottle up again.....i am going to drink til i float!

  GLad to hear about the pants that has to be a great feeling!  Keep us posted on teh results of the test. I hope they can get you some answers soon.

yes it is as bad with a person with normal insides.  when i did it during the pre-op testing, it literally looked like cement. it clogged the toilet at school and was quite a traumatic (sp?) experience.

Thanks, Jen...I hope never to have to do it again.  I still feel sick, but it will pass soon I am sure.

Heather, if you have any peri colace in the house, take two now and then two again in the morning when you get up (if nothing is moving yet).  I promise you, it will help.

Congrats on the whole pants thing - that is awesome! 

The barium - yes - it does turn to cement.  When we give it through the iv, and the iv is staying in the patient after the test (like all the patients in the er) we have to run saline through it within 10 minutes or we run the risk of it hardening in there and needing to put in a new iv and take that one out - which obviously ****** off the patients.

I'm a little lost on the pop rock things as I personally have never given it - but doesn't sound to fun.
