not having a good day
back in April, my son (2yrs old) stayed at CHOP for auto immune hemolitic aenemia- I am sure Pam can explain....today was the 6 mo check up....and his counts are low, so unexpectedly he is being re-admitted.
I post it here for 2 reasons. it appears we can use some prayers and last time the Mrs. & I stayed, we realy compensated w/ food....McDonalds on site + cafeteria+ stocked fridge was not any help for my butt...
Now I am not sure we will handle it...we will be here at least 1 nite.

Steve... my thoughts and prayers are with your family! I'm sorry your son has to go through this!
As for food.. I know the whole comfort food route.. be strong, but don't beat yourself up if you find you need some comfort.. even if it's food.. just be cautious... even McDonalds now carries healthier foods.. It's one nite.. and remember.. you can always come chat with us.. to get your mind off food and other things!
We are all here for you!

I'm sorry your son has to go through this. Sending prayers your way. Like it was already said, even McD's has healthier options, as does CHOPs cafeteria. If it is stress eatting you are worried about, stock up on the healthy stuff and keep lots of water on hand. Make sure you dont turn to the things that you shouldnt have, or you are going to end up in the bathroom sick and unable to attend to you son's needs.

Steve sending prayers and love yours, your wife's and your son's way! I hope that all works out for the best and he is home playing tomorrow like 2 year olds should be!
As everyone said there are healthy options - you need to stay out of the restroom with dumping to care for that little boy of yours!
All my best

I'm sorry to hear that you and your wife are dealing with this right now. Thoughts and prayers your way. This is a great time to take care of you but probably the hardest. Focus on taking care of yourself FOR YOUR SON. He'll need you top knotch and feeling energetic. So buy a poetry set of magnets and make horrible sentences that you would NEVER say but make you feel good to "create" or buy a small white board (my kids loved this one) and write every nasty thing you can think of to say when you're feeling stressed. Erase them and do it again. Both are kind of silly when you talk about doing them but when you actually do them they do kind of help because you feel like a kid who's getting away with something "bad." Might make you and your wife crack up too and laughing would be good. When my kids were older you would not have believed some of the "messages" on the fridge that I would find in the AM when I got up (they're both night owls). Know that we're here for you during all of this dude. Oh yeah. And dirty Mad Libs rock too for stress relief.

You and your family have my thoughts and prayers and am praying that everything goes well and your little guy won't have to stay in the hospital too long.
When I'm going somewhere stressful (hospital w/my mom, etc.) I throw protein bars into my bag - one, they satisfy the urge to chew since most of them are dense, and I try to keep some with chocolate flavor to satisfy that 'candy' urge. But like everyone said - if its only one night and you do take comfort in foods you wouldn't normally don't beat yourself up over it, but don't make yourself sick with it either.
Wishing you all the best...please keep us posted when you can.

Steve,
You're right - this is not a good day. And stresses abound. I will be thinking of you, the mrs. and of course your son. I hope everything works out ok.
Everyone has pretty much summed it up about the food thing. Although because this is unexpected, I'm sure you probably didn't think of throwing protein bars into your bag and what not. If one of you is able to get out for a moment, perhaps you can stop at a store in the area and pick some up. But that might not be a logical choice either. Stick with chicken and salads and water - and if you don't get protein in or whatever understand that this is hopefully only a day or two and won't throw you completely off. The biggest concern I would think is dumping or over stuffing on carbs - and like others have said - you or the wife being sick will not help your son.
Stay strong and keep us updated. You are all in our thoughts and prayers.

Instead of complaining that the rosebush has thorns, be happy that the thorn bush has roses.
Steve,
My prayers for your son and family that things turn around for him! Ditto all the great advice you got on how to get through with the food stuff. . .
