Ulcer Symptoms?

What are the symptoms of an ulcer??? Last night I had some Chicken Curry Tenders from Trader Joes. I immediately felt like my pouch was on fire, like salt on a wound. I could not get over how bad it felt, Then all day today I have had a slight buring pain. I drank some coffee and it flared up a little. Can you have an ulcer and not know it?

I can't speak from personal experience...although I'm sure jen and liz would be able to tell you first hand how it feels.

It certainly could be ulcers...considering spicy and caffeine seemed to make it flare.

I personally would start on Prevacid or Pepcid or something like that and also put a call out to Brader to bounce it off of him.

Feel better!

Hi Nicole,
I have had ulcers pre- and post-op.  Your symptoms are exactly what mine were prior to my diagnosis.  Of course, you could just be at the beginning stages of the game, and may be able to prevent it with some dietary modifications and preventive medications.

Call Dr. Brader for some guidance on the med angle, and lay off the spicy foods, caffeine, deli meats, fried foods, and any acidic foods, like tomatoes, orange juice, etc.  I also had to lay off the good veggies, like cucumbers, peppers, broccoli, cauliflower, etc.

Good luck.

Hugs,
Trish

Hi Nicole,
The answer is yes.  I was diagnosed with a bleeding ulcer two weeks ago.  My symptom was an occasional sharp pain below my lower left rib cage.  Had to have an endoscopy to confirm it.  Am on oral disolvable Prevacid for the next two months before another scope to determine progress in healing.  If you suspect an ulcer in your pouch, you should be in touch with your physician ASAP.  It's a condition that leaves no margin for speculation or error in our situation.  I'll say a prayer for you.
Blessings,
Ron

Nicole - Sounds like it could be - I agree - call Dr Brader. I was put on carafete (a god awful tasting med but it works) and prevacid for 3 weeks and that did the trick. Like somone else said - it is a time sensitive thing, the longer you wait, the worse they get. I avoided acidic foods, spicy and caffeine for a while and all is good!

Good luck and keep us posted!

Liz
