Thanks everyone for your thoughts and prayers, you all have been earthly angels for me in this bad time.

Jack is home from the hospital, he was in Altoona, then transferred to Chambersburg Hospital's orthopedic rehab unit. He was there for about 4 days.

He has a neck brace and a torso brace that fits front and back like a turtle shell. He has to wear his neck brace 24/7. His torso brace (his turtle shell)
has to be on any time he is sitiing or standing/walking. If he doesn't wear his braces the fractures in his neck and back could worsen and he could be a paraplegic or a quadraplegic (sp?) for the rest of his life. He is in a lot of pain but he's able to do 99% of things on his own for his personal care. He can't drive or lift anything heavier than a gallon of milk.

At this point he is rather grouchy, he can't see any light at the end of the tunnel, so he's not so fun to be around, but hopefully I can handle it.

One thing I found out during all this is that Jack had been abusing Rx drugs, mostly percocet, vicodin and xanax. He gets a scrip for percs and xanax from our family doctor. But he has also been buying them from someone at work. There were unusual withdraws from the ATM and no explanation that fit the amout of money he was taking. He even took the presidential dollar coins I had been saving- almost 100 of them. This also explains his lack of motivation and being sleepy/tired all of the time when I figured it was depression and stress at work. All of which is true and may have started him using.

The next step in Jack's recovery is drug rehab. Because of his injuries, he has to be in a hospital based program- either Altoona or Valley Forge. As of Friday there were no open beds. We are just waiting for that to open up. The social worker at the hospital is still on his case until he gets into rehab.

I feel like a dunce for not realizing he was abusing the drugs,  but Jack is good at hiding things and I can be very naieve, especially about drugs and alcohol because I haven't done either.

So I still need everyone's good thoughts and energy, and prayers to help Jack and I get through this without destroying our marriage or him being injured beyond repair.

Again I thank each and every one of you in advance. I don't believe we would have gotten this far without the power of your prayers and good thoughts.

I am very grateful.

Jen,

Wow.

I'm glad he is doing better and is home from the hospital.  I pray for his continued recovery.

As far as the abusing drugs - don't feel like a "dunce" as my brother was addicted to prescription along with street drugs such as heroin (drug of choice) and marijuana.  I am a nurse "trained" to look for this and couldn't see it in my own brother.  I mean....I knew he was using....but never thought heroin and never knew the extent of his addiction until he got arrested and was caught with ALOT of drugs including vicodin, heroin, morphine, pot, xanax...you name it, he had it in his car.  We went through a lot with my brother.  He went to rehab....relapsed to an extent...and is presently clean again.  During his bad addiction time he was using 10-20 bags of heroin a day.

This will be an extensively long recovery for him - both physically, emotionally, and from the drug stand point.  The pain will also be harder to control due to his addiction - which can obviously add to his less than happy self.

I will be thinking of all of you.

If you need someone to talk to - feel free to pm me or give me a call (although I must admit ahead of time due to my crazy work schedule and sleep schedule...answering the phone is not something i am great at doing)  h 732-495-3969 c 732-904-8179

Pam,

Thanks for your continued support. It's been really hard the last few days, as jack is coming off the Rx pills. He can have 2 vicodin a day, which I have hidden in the house so he can't abuse them. He is very testy, doesn't want to eat or wear his 'turtle' shell brace. Not much I can do but wait and see.

Our marriage is also in question now. Jack's not sure he wants to stay married or even be friends with anyone at this point. He is pushing everyone away , including me. It hurts deeply.

Thanks for sharing your phone number, I appreciate your caring and concern.
