NO compassion from Dr. Wieger at the Weight loss Clinic in Harrisburg PA

Hello all,  I'm going to tell you about my most recent visit with Dr. Wieger of the Weight loss clinic at Harrisburg PA.  If anyone has any suggestion on where else I can go where I might get a few crumbs of compassion, please let me know.  I already had one complication of a slipped band, May 29, 2008, that is costing me $12,000, when the orginial surgery was $13,000 that was paid last year.  The second surgery does not even include another band. I go in for my adjustment at The Weight loss Clinic of Harrisburg PA.  I get told after my 1st fill the new fill price will be $200 per fill.  I think nice.  INstead of $50 I'll be paying $200 for any fill from now on.  Last year I had to be filled and unfilled like 8 times.   I get to see the Fill/Adjustment Dr. Wieger, he starts in on me telling me I shouldn't even be getting a fill because I'm eating all the wrong foods.  He tells me any anxiety I have about the now $25,000 in medical costs regarding this band is my "MENTAL" issues.   Insurance exclusion with my band here.   He said my working now, as to not working before is an excuse as to not eating right and not exercise but 5 ONLY hours per week.  i TOLD HIM I have to work now to pay for all the complication fees.  He said I'm using that as an excuse.  What a nice guy! He said as far as complications these things happen and I should deal with it.  HE ALSO SAID, IF i DON'T LIKE the SERVICES OFFERED AT THE WEIGHT LOSS CLINIC, I should go somewhere else.  I was completely flabbergasted, that the customer service at The Weight Loss Clinic from Dr. Wieger was so brusque and rude.  I was shocked that he was so uncompassionate in his speech to me.  I would never dream of being so brusque or rude to a patient of mine.  It was extremely insulting and I highly DON'T RECOMMEND GOING TO THE WEIGHT LOSS CLINIC OF HARRISBURG PA.  The surgeons there are FANTASTIC, the lap-band follow-up doctor is rude, brusque, uncompassionate, when all I've been is polite, soft spoken and kind.   He's not exactly conducive to losing weight with him unkind demeanor.  More like a drill seargant!

HI!  WOW i'm so sorry to hear about that!  That must have been horrible!  I go to the Weight Loss Clinic there as well, and have only met with Dr. W once for my initial medical review.  He seemed ok but not very friendly, pretty much all business.  But yes that is a terrible way to treat a person.  All of my appointments there have been pretty quick and easy, I'm having RNY sometime soon, but I will keep this mind as I'm moving along in the process.   I wish you the best of luck and I know that Hershey Medical Center does the the lap band, maybe there is a Doctor there that can help you. My friend goes there for her Lap band issues, which she also had slippage problems with.   I'll be thinking about you and thank you for posting this!  Good luck with everything! 

two words DOCTOR BRADER!  If you are near Harrisburg Lancaster isn't that much further! He is at Lancaster General and is a FABULOUS WLS surgeon Best of luck and sorry to hear that the Dr was such a schmuck! On a similar note - I met with my family Dr last night because I am having terrible back issues. His first suggestion was to take off a couple of pounds -  I asked him if 125 were enough because that is what I already took off - the more I loose the worse it gets. He didn't have any further comments.... jerk Keep your head up and try Dr Brader - you won't be disappointed! Liz

Looks like your dealing with a schmuck as well.  I think all these Doctors have a secret schmuck club where they learn to use bs to see how much we will put up with.

I am really thankful now that I didn't get approved for the lapband... because of things like this...

But, I agree with the others that this guy was rude and just wrong... report him! And then file a complaint with the office about how you were treated... NO ONE should ever be treated that way...

I would go and see Doc Brader... he was going to be my do****il he changed locations... he is a great guy... straight shooter... but nice...

But what foods did he say you were eating that were all the wrong ones... and working out 5 hours a week is great... it is more than a lot of others put in... he should of been happy you were going that often!

Find a new doc ASAP!

My experience with the Weight Loss Clinic is this: They get you in there and then they get you into surgery (eventually) and then when you need lap band fills they tell you to find another place to go. When you ask where they say names but no other doctor wants to take these doctors patients....I wonder why. Not treating patients when they need the lap band fills is nothing short of neglect, i recommend Hershey Med. Center.
