Steroids are generally contraindicated post op because of the steroid thing - you are correct in that. However - it becomes a question as to why you were put on them.  Sometimes that's the only thing to help with asthma or other breathing problems.  The risk is ulcers which I know you are familiar with.  However, in my humble opinion, I would rather be able to breathe and take some extra pepcid and keep my diet bland than the other way around. Try to take it with food, that can help. Oh...and depending on the dosage and how long you are on it and your sensitivity to the stuff - expect some water weight gain and "moon face" (puffy face) because of it. Hope you are feeling ok. Pam

Hi Liz, I have asthma, and find prednisone just is too harsh on my pouch.  I have also had ulcers since surgery.  I can tolerate Medrol, and it works for my asthma just like the prednisone.  Not sure why you were prescribed the prednisone, but just wanted to make that suggestion.  Be sure to eat something when you take it.   Hugs, Trish

Thanks Ladies! I was put on it for my back - for 9 days. I have been taking it with food and omeprazole (similar to pepcid but perscription) as I too have battled ulcers. I haven't felt bad when I take it although my heart was racing for a few minutes last night and I have that "full" moon face feeling. I'm with you Pam, I'd rather gain a bit of water weight and take the extra stomach pill if it is going to make me feel better. This whole back this is well quite literaly a pain in the A** it is my L3 that is all screwed up (3 up from teh tailbone) so lets see, sitting, standing, squating, lifiting, pushing, pulling and working on anything over my head is off limits. So I have been in general (when not at work of course) flat on my back on the floor... only way it doesn't hurt. Even at night  I am up doing laps around the house every few hours (somehow this feels strikingly familiar!) just so I am not in pain. Thanks again for the advice ladies! I will keep a close eye while taking it! Liz
