Tina,

So glad you have such wonderful family support....even if they have gone a tad overboard!  It certainly shows their love for you!

By now the pain should be subsiding and you are probably feeling much better.  I hope you are able to get a bit of a walk in as well.  The weather is GREAT today and promises more of the same for a few days!

Congratulations on taking the steps to improve your health!!!!!

Linda,

Thank you for your concern.  As of today the Cellulitis is all but gone.  The seromas will take more time as they must be drained once per week.  Each time they should be smaller until they no longer exist!

I'm working toward becoming a certified OH group leader for this area.  I see that you have become one as well!!

WOW!!!!!

I can certainly understand how you are grateful to be alive!!  And to have lost nearly 300 lbs is fantastic!

Unfortunately once one has had Cellulitis one is more prone to its development again--even if you are of normal weight!  I've had it now a total of 3 times in my life.  Because I recognize the symptoms I've been able to get on it immediately so I've never been hospitalized for it.  You too will always recognize the symptoms so that you can get on top of it early and not have to be hospitalized again should you ever be unlucky enough to get it again.

I am so very happy for you!  What a wonderful outcome you are having and will continue to have.

Trisha
PS--just an update...the Cellulitis is all but gone however these seromas will be hanging around for just a bit.  They take much longer to clear up.  It isn't preventing me for being active however.

I am new to the forum but I was curious as to which insurance company you have right now.  I have pacificsource and they have told me that there is absolutely no way that they will cover wls....  even if it is medically necessary...

Go Madre go!  I'm so sorry to hear about your bike accident, but I'm glad it won't interfere with surgery.  Dr. O'Rourke is great and you'll do fine.  Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

Back i***** I checked myself into Legacy Emanuel hospital.  I had cellulitis really bad on my left leg.  I had no idea what in the heck it was.  I ended up with kidney failure and wound up on dialysis for 16 days.  No fun.  I had a catheter in my neck, and I felt like an alian.  In 1997, I was in a head on car wreck, ( we hit a dump truck head-on)  My then husband lost his life, I wound up with 2 broken legs, several broken ribs and a fractured right arm.  Talk about a nightmare.  Back then I weighed over 525 lbs.

I had my RNY 2 yrs ago, and since then, I have lost close to 300 lbs.  I feel greatful to be alive!!

Just talked to Heather at OHSU, and I am good to go tomorrow morning.

File under: don't do this the day before surgery.

I went out for a little fitness bike ride at 6 am this morning and, long story short, hit myself in the face with a curb. Naturally, my first thought as I'm standing there with blood streaming out of my nose and split lip is, "Oh God, please let me still have surgery!!". Turns out my nose is fine, just swollen. I did get a few stitches in my lip, and I have a touch of road rash on my upper lip. Still got all my front teeth. I called up to OHSU and explained my plight, and they said no problemo! Hey, coulda been a lot worse.

Alright, losers, slide over, 'cause my size 26 (soon to be size 14 or so) keester is about to land on the bench!

And I should be out in time to see the Beavers whup Stanford on Thursday!

Glad to see that you finally got banded!

Tell the so-called "food police" that you should drink plenty of fluids, especially early out.  I don't think you want to be re-admitted to the hospital to be treated for dehydration just because the "cops" try to restrict your fluid intake.

I did eat cream of wheat at breakfast while at the hospital.  I found that it can be eaten plain or sprinkled with Splenda.

I see that your siggy has changed for the better!

Best of luck on your safe and successful recovery, Tina!

Here is the link to "Appealing Insurance Denials".  It includes a sample appeal letter.

Hope this helps, and best of luck!
