Beth, I just re-read your original posting.  It looks as if you have an appt with the PAT clinic and a pre-op consult with Dr. D.  If that's the case, then you were approved by UHC and have a surgery date!!!  Congratulations!!!

Heather's phone number is 503-494-1983.  The best time to call her is anytime in the morning.  In the afternoons, she is usually busy contacting patients the day before their surgeries but keep trying!  She will also mail you a letter outlining the info including your surgery date!

Congratulations again!!!

At OHSU, it does not necessarily mean that you're approved for insurance.  You will still have to meet OHSU's and the insurer's requirements before your records can be submitted to insurance for approval or denial.  Once the approval is received, the surgery date, the surgery prep seminar, appt at the pre-admit test (PAT) clinic, and the consult appt with the surgeon are set up.  However, the info about your surgery date and hospital stay will not be included in your MyChart account.

When I was at the hospital, the in-patient dietician visited me in my room a couple of times as I was eating breakfast.  She was totally and completely clueless about the DS surgery, so I had her contact the outpatient dietician who knew more about the DS.

The post-op appt with the dietician is completely up to you.

I'm SO beyond confused right now!

2 weeks ago I was told I was being submitted for insurance and I would hear back from then in 2-6 weeks depending on insurance. Well as of 2 days ago, I called UHC and they said they had nothing in their system.. I sent Shannon an email asking if I had been submitted.

About 5 min ago I received 3 messages in my Mycharts box. Scheduling my pre-op with Dr. D, my pre-op meds appointment and then a post op with the dietician, however not a word if I've been approved.

So I'm about to start bawling with excitment but I'm scared to get my hopes up since I have no idea. I did send an email asking but of course I have NO patience right now.

Also, the post-op NUT appointment. Do you go to that AFTER surgery or do you see her again before the surgery for your post-op stuff??

ANY help would be appreicted!

so glad about your surgery going well. And of course your recovery too. Now we just have to focus on your journey with a poor fractured wrist....ouch!  Just keep paddling with the other. We're here to carry you if needed!

Oh dear!  Sorry to hear about your wrist, but it's good someone caught it and you can get treated.  Probably just splinting and then PT will do it if it didn't separate.  I'm glad to hear surgery went forward and you're doing well.  Congratulations!

Congratulations, Ironwoman!!!
So glad they were able to do the surgery, but a bummer about the wrist. It is euphoric when you come home after the surgery, I felt the same way.
Good luck,

I'm home again and feeling pretty darn good. No problems with surgery and recovery, but remember that little bike wreck I mentioned in my last post? By Tuesday morning, my left wrist, which had only been a liitle stiff and sore, turned out to be fractured. The nurse-anesthetist took one look at it and said, "umm, that's not good." So xrays were called for and there was some drama due to the possibility of surgery being delayed. On first review of the film, everything looked ok, so it was on to surgery.  But someone went back for another look later on and found  a nonseparating fracture. So I ended up with a temporary splint, and I'll see someone locally about that next week.

So, yes, I am Ironwoman. Thanks for asking!

Has anyone heard from Angela? She was supposed go be getting surgery at OHSU yesterday. I thought about her quite often.

Hello Sandra!

These are good questions and you have gotten some very good responses as well.

There are several in the McMinnville support group who are going through the OHSU system and they would be happy to share with you their experiences and frustrations as well.

Our next meeting will be a week from tonight, Sept 4th at 6:00 PM.  Support groups are wonderful no matter what stage you are in!!  I hope we see you there.  It would be wonderful to meet you.

Sincerely,

Trisha Schnatterly

Jennifer,

You should have had surgery a bit over a week ago.  How did everything go?  Are you also a nurse at OHSU?

I'm sorry that your nursing friends were not more supportive of your efforts to attain good health.  It is NOT helpful to dwell on the negative.  It IS important to KNOW that those possibilities do exist, but the chances of them happening are very small.

Please come back and update the board so we know how you are doing.

{{{hugs}}}

Trisha
