I have no words of advise for you, but it sounds like you know what you're doing.  I hope you are successful in your fight!  I personally hate Kaiser (had one too many mistakes by them), but I know that their system can work if you are willing to be your own best advocate and keep on top of everything and make sure you get the care you deserve!  Good luck!

IMR = Independent Medical Review

I know that Kaiser doesn't do the DS or even speak of the DS. Dr. Deveney at OHSU would obviously be my ideal surgeon since he is so close.

I just need the Independent Medical Review to look into the denial that I will be getting from Kaiser. Ill just keep on looking though :)

LOL! Good eye!!! I actually tried to crop that part out of the picture for this site but well I guess I didn't do a good enough job. Just a bit of my personality showing through lol. You are the first one to notice though!

I know its difficult with Kaiser...beyond difficult. I am looking into the Independent Medical Review in order to overturn their denial though. I wi**** was as easy as just going to another Kaiser but they as a whole won't do it, or even discuss doing it. Its the bad word amongst the Kaiser system lol. Ill just keep up my fight until I get it...one way or another :)

Have a great one! :)

Topic: RE: Support meetings in Hillsboro?
There is the NW WLS Day of Education on 9/13 which is 9-5 and the cost is $55/person whi*****ludes lunch and snack.  Dr. Rabkin, Dina McBride, Vitalady among others will be there.  That is the reason the Sept Paclap support group will not meet.

The next Paclap support group is October 12th at 4:30.  Both the Day of Education and the support group are at the Hillsboro Vineyard Church at 5968 SE Alexander St. Suite A in Hillsboro behind the Regal Cinemas Movies on TV.

There is also a suppor group that meets in Beaverton which I have never been to but I am going to try to attend which meets at the Beaverton Community Center across from the Library on 5th.  That one meets this month Wed Sept 10th at 7pm.

The website for the NW WLS Education site is:

www.nwwlsed.org

Good luck.  I hope to see you at an event!

Topic: RE: Need suggestions on tasty Protein Drinks

You can order protein samples from the following:

Unjury:
http://www.unjury.com
Bariatric Eating:
http://www.bariatriceating.com
VitaLady:
http://www.vitalady.com

I have read in other forums of others *****ceived free samples directly from manufacturers by stating that they're candidates for WLS.

Before my surgery, I ordered a minimum number of samples from Vitalady.com to be drank as a post-op.  So far, I have drank all those that I ordered.

The following are the flavors that I like :
- Champion Nutrition Pure Whey Stack "banana scream" (bought a tub from vitalady.com)
- SynTrax Nectar "cappuccino" (bought a tub on sale at the local Vitamin Shoppe store)
- SynTrax Nectar "fuzzy navel" (bought a tub on sale at the local Vitamin Shoppe store)
- Champion Nutrition Pure Whey Stack "tropical sunrise" (tastes sort of like Orange Julius--no plans to buy tub at this time)
- SciFit Econo "ice cream banana" (no plans to buy tub)

The following are the flavors that I don't like  (all taste like baboons' butts! ):
- SynTrax Nectar "roadside lemonade" (will stick with the lemonade flavors of Crystal Light)
- Champion Nutrition Pure Whey Stack "cookies & creme" (will stick with the DQ Blizzard)
- Unjury "chocolate" (one other DSer gave me a sample shortly before my surgery and I consumed it the week after my surgery)

I mix the "banana scream" and "fuzzy navel" with half-and-half.  Both taste better that way than when I mixed them with water.  The rest were mixed with water.

A vitalady.com sample is equivalent to about 1 or 1.5 servings.  Read each label.

None of the samples from vitalady.com has an expiry date but they should.  Therefore, I dated them as of the month/year I received them and should use them up within a year.

One of my protein tubs that I bought in 2008 has an expiry date of sometime in 2010, so it should be OK for now.

Note to pre-ops:  If you want to buy the samples, then go for it!  However, keep in mind that your taste buds may change after surgery.  So those that you liked as a pre-op, you might not like them at all as a post-op!

As for delivery, my orders are received the day after FedEx Home picks them up at her house.  My last order was picked up around 2 PM and delivered to my door before 9:30 AM the next day.

Hope this helps!

Vicki

DS (lap) with Dr. Clifford Deveney. Cholecystectomy (lap) with Dr. Clifford Deveney 19 months post-op.

Has not weighed myself since 1/2010.  Letting my clothes gauge my progress instead.

Getting the all the protein in that we need to have on a daily basis is hard to do when so much of it tastes awful.
I have found low calorie, high protein shakes,  juices,  puddings, bars, smoothies, chips, cookies, jerkee, and they taste amazing!
If you are interested stop by the two locations close to you and check them out, they offer free samples to taste.
One is located in Albany, and one in South Salem. Let me know if you are interested and I can send you the address for both locations.
I had Gastric Bypass Surgery 4 yrs ago, I remember the frustration I went through because I could not find a protein bars or shakes that I liked. I live in Eugene and had my surgery at OHSU.
I was at 302lbs when I had WLS and I've lost 132 lbs and have kept it off.
There are also two locations in Eugene, one in Roseburg, one in Florence, six in the Portland area. They also have the complete Vitamin B complex injection available.
I really hope this does not come across as a sales pitch, it is not my intention at all.
Let me know if you are interested.
Belive me I've been where you are.

Silly me but are you giving someone the finger in that picture?  or is it just distortion???? :)

DS might be difficult if the doctors do not do it.  I don't suppose there is a way to get Kaiser to let you go out of preferred provider (namely them)  for your DS?  Or perhaps travel to another Kaiser hospital where there are doctors who do perform the surgery?

What is IMR?  I had RNY thru Kaiser 2 yrs ago.  They do not do the DS.  RNY is the only surgery they do.  I know for a fact they may be considering the Lap band sometime in the future, but that is all I have heard.  It took me 18 months to jump thru all their hoops, to get from Orientation to the appt with the surgeon.  After that, it was a piece of cake.

Good luck,

Peggy
