Thanks, everyone, for the words of encouragement.  The waiting (for now) IS the hardest part.  But that, of course, will change once the day is here.  I'd post a pic but haven't figured out how to post one or to post a ticker.  Us newbs are such  pain, huh?

My doc gave me the added stipulation (besides losing 10 lbs before the surgery) to also get my blood sugars under control.  Gosh, that's the main reason I want the surgery.  I can't seem to
GET them under control.  Ah, well, I guess it will all work out in the end.

Thanks again!

Welcome Cathy,

If you want to "Speed up" the process, find out if you have to have your psych eval done through them or if you can have an independent one. Many people go into their 1st appointment with that part knocked out of the way already.

Welcome to the 1st part of your new life to come:)

Topic: RE: What Can I expect at "Informational Seminar"
Hi Tishka,  There are many people looking into WLS and having a seminar is an easy way to get that information to all who want it with just one telling.  You will receive information that will show you what steps to take to begin the journey to WLS.  It is a lenghty process and will not happen in just a few weeks.  There are many steps to take to and requirement to meet both with your insurance and the facility where the surgery will take place.  All of this takes time.  Enjoy the process and glean as much information as you can to help you make the best choice for you.
It took me 14 months to finally have my surgery.  I had my surgery on July 1 and I am now down 59 lbs.  I am so very glad for all of the time it took to be able to have surgery as I was so very prepared for it by the time I got it.  I believe that being totally prepared helped me have such a wonderful experience.  Linda

Topic: 3 Month Post Op check up
Hi everyone,  I just had my 3 month post op check up and I am doing great.  My labs came back great and I feel awesome.  I am so grateful to all of you for the help you gave me while I waited for my surgery.  It was a long 14 month journey.  I am now down 59 lbs.
I am doing things I had not been able to do for over 20 years.  I went camping for a week with my husband and we went on several long hikes and I didn't even get winded.  It feels so wonderful to be getting smaller.  I love discovering my body again.  I have no memory of what it feels like to not be enveloped in fat.  What an awsome discovery.
I am having fun just being able to move and enjoy the movement.  I am so filled with gratitude every day for the wonderful new lease on life I have.  Once again THANK YOU to all of you who share on this site and give good information feed back it is very helpful.

Topic: What Can I expect at "Informational Seminar"
I'm just starting the research stage as well and have a meeting scheduled this week for the Oregon Bariatric Center (now located at the new Riverbend hospital in Springfield).  I've been scheduled for the seminar for a few weeks now and the anticipation is KILLING me!  I'm trying not to get my hopes up because I know that this is just the first step in a very long process and is mostly for informational pusposes.

Can anyone tell me what exactly to expect from the seminar?  Has anyone actually gone to one of these?  I have heard that there will be MANY MANY people there - a whole huge room full.  Is this just their way of "weeding out" those that don't qualify or aren't serious enough about the process?  Are they trying to "scare away" some people so that they don't have so many?

I have had butterflies in my stomach for weeks!

Thanks everyone!
