Topic: RE: Wasington gal en route to Oregon! "Good Samaritan" in Portland?
Heather,
Congrats on the surgery. I also went to Good Sam. My process went pretty fast. I started the process for Lap- band On August 1, 2008 i had my surgery on November 7, 2008. I think that both doctors are great. However, I think that Dr.Patterson bed side manners are a littler better with Dr. Halpin she seems harsh at first but then she gets better. If you want to know more please feel free to PM and maybe we can chat.

Topic: RE: Anyone else having problems w/ surgery @ RiverBend?
I have had two friends go to Dr. T in Coos Bay. One was insured and insurance paid all, the other was self pay. Both were pleased with the surgery. Only problem was the after care. They both had lap band surgery, and didn't like having to travel to Coos Bay for a quick 15 minute appointment to get a fill.
One of the gals has since discovered Kelly Fitzpatrick locally, and goes to her for her fills. Cuts the driving time immensely. I am fortunate, as Dr. Patterson's office does come to Eugene/Springfield monthly for appointments, meaning I don't have to make that LONG drive to Portland.
Best of luck with your pending surgery! Keep us posted.

Something is definitely not quite right about Riverbend. I was told they knew about Yarborough leaving for about a year and didn't say anything about it. I signed up with them last October and had no idea - otherwise I would not have done it. They have gone through 3 surgeons - can't seem to keep one.
I think they should have at least told the people in the program there was a possiblity that they would be without a surgeon.
From what I understand - the Center of Excellence is a 3 part certification - the doctor, the clinic, and the hospital. Each one is certified separately. You have to have all 3 pieces to be a "Center of Excellence. Now, since RiverBend has the Hospital and Clinic piece, if they get a surgeon that has been certified, they will still get to keep their rating as a Center of Excellence. So - they are ony interviewing surgeons that qualify. I'm sure that limits them somewhat.
They still don't have anyone after months of looking. They are trying to find 2 and can't even get one!
I just don't feel like waiting. I will see Dr. T. in Coos Bay in 2 weeks and probably have surgery a week after that.

Topic: RE: Oh Yoo Hoo! Let's have a ROLL CALL!
Hi -
My name is Lisa and I am coming up on 2 years since I had open RNY in Bend, OR. I have never regretted this surgery and feel it saved my life. Dr. Archer is my hero and I will forever be grateful that he was there to help me when I needed him.
I am sad to say that I see no one has been responding since April. I would dearly love to see some Oregon activities going on. I have found that active support groups and activities keep your focus and your drive going.
I myself have been slacking off on my support groups and journaling and have seen my weight loss come to a standstill. I have my 2 yr Dr. appt in about 7 weeks and have set a goal to be at least below my last weigh in weight. My Dr. said that at 2 years people tend to gain weight and I have promised myself that I will not be in that boat! I am gearing up to get back to doing those things and being consistent with my exercise. I have lost about 145 and have about 40 more pounds to go. (My ticker hasn't been updated).
Keep in touch....it helps!

Topic: RE: OHSU Bariatric Support Group Meeting
I really enjoyed Dr. Christine Jensen, Nutritionist, presentation on Weight Management and the Psychology of Eating. She did a brief overview of her course.
Changing From the Inside Out (Weight Management)
Description: Get to the root of your weight problem by identifying thoughts and feelings that affect your eating and activity patterns. In this group setting you will share your stories and unravel the complex path that has led to emotional eating. You'll learn new skills to overcome emotional eating patterns, in this ten week group program.
If you would like more information or are interested in the 10 week course at Providence the URL is http://providence.org/epri se/main/oregon/classes/def ault.htm and choose the class name "Changing From the Inside Out (Weight Management)"
Even after loosing all the weight we still have a lot of the same issues, weight was just a side effect.
If you did not catch this presentation there is also the group in the evening on July 14th.

Topic: RE: Anyone else having problems w/ surgery @ RiverBend?
Yeah, I was wondering if there were problems with OBC. I had seen in the local paper that both Good Sam in Corvallis and Dr. T in Coos Bay were advertising. I think it is very odd that a hospital the caliber of Riverbend, can't keep a bariatric center open. Wonder what the real problem is. Also, since they don't have a surgeon, does that also mean, upon finding a surgeon, that they no longer qualify as a Center of Excellence, which many insurance companies require.
I had my surgery at Good Sam in Portland with Dr. Patterson, and I am pleased with my results.....
