Funky B12 Injection vials
Can someone please help me? I've been giving myself montly B12 shots since my surgery nearly 3 years ago. Unfortunately, my insurance won't cover these anymore so I've saved money by ordering them from Canadapharmacy.com. Well, the vials arrived today and I haven't a clue as to how I use them. They appear to be all glass and don't have the gray rubber part I'm used to inserting a needle into. I could snap off the necks of them, but the liquid is above the neck line of the vial. If anyone else has encountered these type vials please let me know how the heck I use them? Thank you.
Megan I am also a nurse and waiting to have surgery but what you do is shake the liquid down into the bottom part of the vial. If you grip the vial by the top and shake, the liquid will go into the bottom then break the top off and pull the liquid out in the syringe. I noticed you live in Eastern Oregon also...do you know where there is a support group on our side of the state??? Sonya
Hi Megan,
Your profile doesn't say what kind of surgery you had.? Also, wanted to let you know that if the B12 comes in glass vials and you have to break the top off to get to the liquid you should be using a filter needle to pull the liquid out. This special needle works as a filter to keep pieces of glass out of the liquid you will be injecting into your body. I was thinking if anything maybe you could visit your local health clinic for assistance.
I was also curious what your labs were?
Hope all is well for you.

I had the lap-rny surgery back in March of 2003. Dr. Deveney was my surgeon too and he and his staff our wonderful. I'm not to goal yet, but happy to report I'm wearing a size 16 wedding gown when I get married on March 4th. I was in a tight fitting size 26 before my surgery so it's quite an experience for me to be able to shop in the Misses section even if I do have to grab an XL. I used to dread shopping before and bought most of my clothes online or through mail order.
The last time I had my labs done everything came back within normal range. My PCP did check my iron levels once and found them to be on the low end of the normal range. Which is why I keep doing the monthly B12 shots. I find that when I stop my hair tends to start falling out again. Thanks for telling me about the filter needles. I will ask for them at the pharmacy.
