It may be for an anti-clotting drug given for a few days post-op. I didn't have to inject anything post-op, nor was it even brought up as a possibility. I do seem to remember it being mentioned on other people's profiles back when I was a pre-op. If it is that - it is very short term. It also could be a B-12 injection, which a lot of post-op folks get, but I have only heard of people going in to their doctor for that? Guess I didn't have an answer, but a few theories? Patty

Hello, I had to give myself twice daily little injections for 10 days post-op. I HATE NEEDLES but was able to do it! Just dont stand up when you do it as the skin is tight and the needle wont go in as well. I made a circle around my belly-button and had 20 little dots because of where it went in. It is not like a shot in a dr's office, at least mine werent. It is all pre-loaded and you just barely feel it. Besides, I was still on drugs for the most of those 10 days!! It could also be b-12, which Kaiser people have to take for life. If that is the case, you can do to the nurse treatment room and they will do it for $5.00 or free if you are double covered. I cant do it myself, so I go up to Sunnyside kaiser once a month and deal with the lines. The shots for the 10 days are to prevent blood clots. Good luck to you!! Sarah G 2/16/04 -207

Hi DeEdra, I had to do injections also to prevent blood clots. I agree with the gal who said to sit when you do it. I was very unhappy about having to inject myself, but the pharmist gave me a hint on how to go about it so that it doesn't hurt: He said to put the needle up to the skin sideways, make friends with it (smiles) and then gently push into the skin....it never hurt at all, not even once!! good luck to you!
