Looking for Providence Hospital
I have a friend who's insurance said they would cover her surgery IF she had it at a Providence hospital. She called the local Providence Hospitals and none of them are set up for Bariatric surgery. She is looking for a Providence hospital in Oregon or Washington.
If you know of one please let me know

I think the hospital I had surgery at - Good Samaritian in Portland is part of the Providence hospital group. Dr.'s Hong and Patterson of the Oregon Clinic operate there and have an office just across the street. I could be wrong but I am pretty sure that in the Portland area Good Sam, Meridian Park in Tualatin and Legacy Emanual are part of the Providence group.
I hope so!

HI Gail,
A few years back I fought providence to have my surgery and lost. Their big "excuse" was that none of their hospitals were equipped to have it done. I was told they won't allow it because of the liability on them. One gal told me, "off the record", that they were sued twice and that is why they won't have it don in actual Providence hospitals. I am not sure about the umbrella hospitals that Patty mentioned, but that is what I was told.
Good Luck!

Hi Gail,I had wls banding done at Legacy and I also work in the insurance verification department at Legacy. The one thing I can tell you is that Legacy is not part of Providence. I believe that Providence contracts with OHSU for all of their WLS surgeries. Legacy has a wonderful program which was just opened in January. The Institue of Obesity at Good Samaritian Hospital. Your insurance will most likely pay there but at a lesser rate. You will have to call your insurance and verify what rate they will pay at a in-network and out of network facility and then decide where you really would like to go for the surgery. Good luck with you surgery in the future,,,,
