Hello everyone! I wish I'd found this website a year ago! It might have saved me some time and heartache, but I am so thankful I'm 'plugged in' now! My surgery is scheduled for Jan. 17th--lap rny with Dr. Hong at Good Sam in Portland. I am trying desperately to get ready and would like advice on what I need for post-op--like good protein sources, iron supplements, etc., etc. \ Anything you found useful and wished you had known beforehand will be greatly appreciated! Can't wait to be on the losing side! Hugs, Stephanie

Hi Stephanie, Congrats on and good luck with your upcomming surgery. One of the best resources i found for info on protein and vits is at Vitalady.com. There is good info there and you can also purchase products, including samples of different protein so you can try them before buying a big jug. Other tips...hmmm...drink lots of water, you dont want to get dehydrated...seriously, that is most important post-op, above anything...to keep your body hydrated. Make up your mind that you need to get moving after surgery...you might not feel like getting up and walking, but its the best thing for you. When you do start eating again, take it real slow, tiny bites and chew really good. I cant think of anything else to tell you...if you have any specific questions feel free to post or email me, i am happy to help...and if you have any questions post-op too! Relax and enjoy the ride!!! Shanna -153

Hi Stephanie: I had my lap rny with Dr. Hong on August 24. I really like him. He did a great job. As far as the vitamins--first of all you don't have to worry about that until your three week check up. As far as the protein is concerned it is a good idea to wait until after your surgery. Why? Because some people have difficulty with tastes of all things. I couldn't stand milk at all! I no longer care for chocolate. I use a protein power called Nectar that I get off vitalady.com. I use fuzzy naval (tastes like orange juice to me) and kiwi/strawberry. I mix those two together and it tastes great. Stephanie, if you would like to call me before your surgery, let me know and I'll e-mail my phone number to you. You are in good hands with Dr. Hong. He is a very caring surgeon. Good luck to you.
