Hi Everyone! I'm new and very excited about this site!
Hi, I am so happy that we have this site! I've been considering WLS for almost 2 yrs now and have been reading posts off and on since then (I just created my profile yesterday though)...I finally made a job change and thier insurance covers this surgery ..I am sooooo excited!...I actually started the pre-op requirements in May and have just finished my 2nd to last requirement on Monday 8-30-04...my last requirement is 3 mo months of physician assisted weight loss...MY SURGERY DATE IS DEC 17th!!!!...I have already had 3+ months of recent dieting and I have lost a total of 2 lbs!!! Duh...it's NOT easy !! I'm not entierly convinced that this should be a requirement for surgery...has anyone else else had to do this to qualify with their insurance???? Please write back...I'm anxious to hear from you!
hi jill,
welcome to the boards.. congrats on already having a date set.. seems like forever but it will pass quickly.. you'll look back and say dam where did the time go!!
I personaly did not have to have a supervised past diet plan.. all I had to do was to write down (not even have proof) of my diet attempts... my only proof was when I was on phen-fen.. (I'm one of the few who actually GAINED weight while on that)
in my case for my ins. it was more to prove that I have unsuccesfuly "dieted" UP TO MY THEN CURRENT WEIGHT.. not that I could/would follow a plan!!
now it seems to be more of a "can you follow directions" type of structure.. but of course that is just my opion on how I see it.. and I see it that way becuase I don't know not ONE fat person who has NEVER treid to loose weight.
anyhoo welcome to the group..
Theresa
Welcome to the board Jill! How exciting you already have a date!!!
As for the weight loss requirements prior to surgery, some docs require it some don't. My doc was in Mexico and he had no such requirements. I jus****ched my diet and tried not to gain. I think it's silly to require it as well, but I have to say that it is really nice to have a head start. I thought I wouldn't really want/need a head start but hindsight is 20/20 and now I realize I wish I had have lost 20 lbs or so. I'd be that much more ahead of the game.
Keep in touch - this is a great board!!!
