I have Oregon Health Plan insurance and it does not cover WLS. I have a BMI of 71.1 and weigh 453 lbs. I have been approved for the surgery by my PCP also. I was wondering if anyone has any information as to how I can get insured by a company that covers the WLS. Thank you in advance for all responses. God Bless. Aliya

Try fighting them on the Oregon Health Plan, I have a friend who has that and she had surgery in July with Dr Flanagan in Eugene.

Aliya, My best advice to you is to either self pay, or change jobs to one that has insurance that covers WLS. T-Mobile has insurance that covers WLS, and some Kaiser plans cover it. I've also seen people start bank accounts and ask for help through their church to save the money for this. It might seem impossible to save that much money, but when you want the surgery bad enough, you will get to the point of doing whatever it takes to get it. Even if that means changing jobs, churches, or working a second job to save money. There are several banks that also offer WLS financing. Capital One bank is one, but there is a list of them somewhere on this website. Good luck and have faith, you WILL get there!! Tam

I was in your same situation, I found another job though, that covers WLS, it pays less, and it's not the best job in the world, but benefits kick in after only 3 months. Email me if you want the details. They are ALWAYS hiring because turnover is soo high, so if you can type, your in! Brandi

Ailya - If you can find a way to get funding for a smaller amount you can also seek out surgery in Mexico. There are several of us in Oregon who have gone to see Dr. Aguirre in Ensenada who just has a stellar reputation. He only does open RNY. There are othere docs in Tijuana as well that some have been to, and I've heard good things about Dr. Ortiz, but I'm not positive if he does RNY. I know he does lap band though. Dina
