Yucko!!
I had the pleasure of attending a friend's "pink" party this weekend. What is a pink party you say? She lives in a fabuous, huge, modern decor house way up in the Portland hills. There is about five decks, an amazing gourmet kitchen, lifesize wire sculpture man sitting on the front porch. (Just setting the scene for you) One wasn't admitted unless wearing pink. Yes this included all the guys. Most mom's ransacked their ten year old's rooms, and guys hoped for a find at Goodwill, because what are they gonna do with a pink shirt, after one night? There was lots of fuzzy pink pillows around, flamingo's hanging on the walls, pink rose petals, etc.
It is the first big party I have attended since surgery (O.K. probably the first party I have been to no-kids in too long to remember). I was faced with an amazing appetizer table with endless shrimp, salmon spreads, sugar peas with dip. On the dessert table, she had a huge Barbie Doll cake (of course with a pink dress), skewers with cubes of cake dipped in pink icing alternating with strawberries half dipped in chocolate, a commercial cotton candy machine making... of course pink. Pink booze spiked punch. Dinner buffet included a full spiral cut Honey Baked ham (I can only afford to get a 5 pound one at Christmas), a whole salmon, red/pink cabbage coleslaw...well you get the picture. It was a party!
Here is the good news. I grazed on shrimp, and peas, and a little salmon spread while smoozing. For dinner I took salmon, ham, and salad. I really don't think I would consider anything as off course for how I am supposed to eat, except maybe quantity. I was trying to rely on my pouch size for this night. Tons of protein available, which always feels great. I have learned post-op, that people really don't care or notice how little you are eating. I didn't want to risk getting sick, but I had decided to kind of take the night off from worrying about protein, or drinking too soon after eating. But you know what...I think the behaviors are getting so ingrained, that it wasn't hard at all to stay on track. There was a live band doing great ones like Under the Boardwalk, and Sitting on the Dock of the Bay. My husband and I danced until we sweat (hey - on track with excersize). Just wanted to share that as a post-op down 74 pounds, this evening felt SWEET! I not only feel so much better, look better, but what we are all worrying about - felt NORMAL.
So what is yucko you say??? I took a shrimp, and dipped it in what I thought was quacamole. I was sitting on a couch with several people in the room, and took a full bite. What the ??????? It is the worst taste I have experienced ever. I spit it in a napkin, but since I was being a good post-op girl, I had no drink to save me. I had to run for water (and to know where the bathroom was). It ends up it was Japanese horseraddish, something you take a very small bit of. If you imagine guacamole, as anyone does, my dip was very generous. I have been so lucky to tolerate all of my protein sources so far, with no vomiting. I figure if my pouch can live through that, I must be pretty lucky. Anyone who does like that **** is crazy!

The stuff you ate is wasabi and is really good in small small amounts especially on like raw oysters. Sorry you had such a bad experience. Wait awhile and then give it a try again with a tiny amount on smoked salmon. Of course you have to like hot food. I'm from Texas and we eat a lot of peppers, picante and chili pequins here so I like really hot food. Hugs, Andrea
