PCP time!!!!
Ok, I am in need of a good WLS friendly PCP in the Portland area (east side best, but will take west) I am looking for somebody who would be happy to refer me to Dr. Patterson. So, let's here it, who has the PCP for me? Names and office #'s? Thank you guys soo much for the help! I just didn't want to start with the phone book, ya know?

I did answer your email about my PCP, but she is on the west side. Which is actually tough for me now since we moved from Beaverton to Gresham. I don't know how far east you are talking about, but I have heard really great things about Mary Meadows, who is in Gresham. My clinical psychologist recommened her to me, since I mentioned I was *considering* switching PCP to find one that isn't an hour drive 1 way. And then a couple other folks backed up the opinion on her. She apparently is a thourough and caring doctor who is sensitive to the issues of obesity and not someone that will brush people off and say "hey lose weight, fat is your problem"
I haven't seen her or called the office yet, sono personal opinion on her. I hate to break up a 5 year relationship and have to start ALL OVER AGAIN with a new PCP, even if it would save a fortune in time and money. It took me 18 months to get a running prescription for Ambien (a sleeping pill), not that my pcp didn't believe me about my insomnia, but a full time prescription is like the last possible resource since they don't want people to become dependant on them. I couldn't handle another 18 months, never sleepingmore than 1 - 2 hours a time, constantly tired, but awake. UGH. I'm just afraid the new doc would want to start treating me all fresh, you know? Anyway, here is the info on Dr. Meadows, if that's not too far east.
Provider Name: Meadows, Mary E., MD
Specialty(ies): Family Practice
Address: 440 Northwest Division, Gresham, OR 97030
Phone Number(s): (503) 215-9500
Good Luck!

I just looked at the packet of information from Dr. Patterson and she had three names of PCPs on her list. James Biemer (503-384-0316); Daniel Highkin (503-254-1240); and Mark Harrington (503-397-0471). Under that caption, she writes: "Your surgeon will require a letter from either your primary care physician or an internal medicine physician. This letter may either be from a physician that you have been seeing or could be from one that is associated with our program. When calling to schedule the appointment please mention that you are applying for bariatric surgery." Then she listed those names.
I am assuming that they are with the Oregon Clinic and also I'm assuming that those folks are PCPs she's worked with in the past.
Hope this helps.

My PCP is Dr. Carol Workman who is located on 164th in Vancouver. Easy drive accross the 205 bridge. Her hubby is a plastic surgeon, too who has an office next to hers. She was able to refer me to him for plastic surgery when I got a breast reduction & tummy tuck. Of course, that was 4 years ago, and I hAD RE-GAINED the weight I had lost back then, and just WLS 3 weeks ago. May need to go back to the plastic surgeon in a year or so. Good Luck!
Don't know if this helps, but my PCP is awesome!
She's in Tigard which isn't that far of a drive from Milwaukie you take the Sellwood bridge exit and come up Taylor's Ferry to 99/Pacific Hwy.
Her name is Karen Murphy and she's at Pacific Medical Group. The # is 503-598-2000. She is a big supporter of Dr. Patterson and has sent quite a few patients her way. She is very thorough, friendly but professional. And, she has always been supportive in what I want to do, but she'll also through out her suggestions. She has never made me fell like she was rushed and I've never felt embarassed to talk to her about anything. For me, that's important because I have a hard time talking about my weight to people who've never "been there".
Good luck Brandi!
