Stretching Helps!
Hey all,
I posted this a couple of times as resposes to other's questions on the pain in our left side after Lap RNY.
I thought I'd post it as a stand alone for anyone who might have missed it.
...................
I'm about three weeks (tomorrow) post op Lap RNY. I had a lot of pain in my left side for the first several days and then discovered something wonderful.
The pain was getting so bad that I couldn't find a comfortable position to sit any longer and finally, out of frustration, tried some old stretches that I learned from weight lifting. The pain subsided almost immediately.
Now, whenever I stand up and before I sit again, I do the stretch exersize a time or two. I mentioned this is another postie about a week ago and she said it worked like a charm for her as well.
My guess is that, after surgery, we are stressing different muscle groups in our upper torso, to relieve the stress on the muscles directly effected by the surgery. I think these previously unused muscles started cramping and aching pretty quickly.
Anyway, here's the exersize:
1. Stand with you feet at shoulder width and, counting slowly to ten, raise your hands above your head as high as you can without serious discomfort. Hold that position for a ten count.
2. Slowly counting to ten, lower your arms out a right angles until your hands are parellel to your shoulders. Hold that position for a ten count.
3. Slowly counting to ten, lower your arms to your sides and completely relax your shoudlers, alowing you arms to hang as "dead weight"
4. Do a couple of shoulder rolls and a neck roll (slow and gentle)
Repeat 1-2 times.
Hope that helps!
