Scared of those big pills!
At my three week post-op visit last week I got my vitamin supplements. The B-12 is O.K., I haven't seen the iron yet because the prescription isn't ready, but the calcium pills are huge! Two of them twice a day!?
I have started to take my regular meds without crushing them (yeah) and am doing O.K. although the first time it did provoke a dry heave session I didn't enjoy. I guess that has me afraid to even try these calcium pills. Does anyone have trouble taking these, or is there a better brand that isn't so big?

Hi Patty
I know exactly what you're going through with those horse-sized pills. There was no way I was going to swallow ONE of them, much less TWO, a day.
I opted to start the vitamins that Carnie Wilson endorsed - Vista Vitamins.
I take four in the a.m. and four in the p.m. They are gel capsules and seem to give me all I need (I do take an extra B-12 daily). I've had two blood works done (I'm 10 months post op) and have had no problems.
take care

Hi Patty!
I have experience in getting a pill stuck in the stoma. I wasn't in pain ironically but couldn't keep anything down not even my own saliva. When they scoped me 24hours later...there was that potassium pill front and center. I have required dilation twice for the damaged it caused and have a third scheduled. It has not hurt my recovery really but it's a pain in the @$(@*$ stomach. I use viactin chews which have never made me dump. If you ever question the size of anything- cut in half if possible using a pill cutter or opt for a chewable, liquid or slurry form of the medication. Good luck! Joanna (8weeks out -30lbs)
