Typical Meal Plans?

Hi Again! After realizing that I have not been given the best follow-up care advise from my surgeon, I have many questions regarding meal plans. My surgeon basically said, "Don't eat bread, tortillas, bananas or pop." That is it!!! He never mentioned vitamins or anything. What have other physicians offered or suggested as meals? I have had lots of struggles with my success of my lap band surgery. It has been 6 months and my progress is slow. (12 pounds) I know I eat less than before surgery and can't figure out what the deal is. I go to the gym 3 days a week. This struggle is killing me! Any thoughts? I am very discouraged and disappointed. Melissa

Melissa - How much are you able to eat in a serving? Have you measured it? If you haven't, measure out cottage cheese, maybe in 2 oz increments and eat it fairly quickly and see how much you eat before you get stuffed feeling. That will tell you how big your pouch is. As for what I eat, I'll let you see my fitday roster so you can see what I have every day. Here is the link: http://www.fitday.com/WebFit/PublicJournals.html?Owner=Javajabbers. If you aren't sure what you are eating or how much, star****ching it and log it into fitday.com and it should help you keep control. Sounds like you need someone to tighten things up for you, but again, not sure how much you are able to eat. I would avoid anything high calorie or high in fat. Don't eat things that slide out too easily like pudding, ice cream, etc. Those things you can eat in larger quantities because they go right through. Give me an idea of your pouch size and what you eat in a day and we'll see if we can't help you tweak it so you get the best results (barring any problems with your band). Dina

Hi Dina! First I want to congratulate you on your weight loss progress! Good Job! I also want to say that when you get to your desired weight loss goal, you should be in the weight loss support industry of some sort. You respond to so many people with encouragement. You have helped me, that is for sure. I have felt completely alone since my surgery in October. No doctors in the area will see me since they did not perform the surgery. Anyway - (I can be quite wordy) I tried eating oatmeal to see how much I could hold. This is actually the first time that I have really measured how much I ate. I was able to eat about 5 1/2 ounces and felt satisfied. Do you think that oatmeal is similar to cottage cheese? I never felt too full or anything. I hope that is enough information. I sure appreciate your help. Thanks so much. Melissa
