:-) Cleaning out the closet :-)
I am amazed at all of the clothes that I have that I have never worn, or maybe wore once. I wouldnt try clothes on in the store and never returned those that didnt fit... I decided that I am going to have only the clothes that presently fit in my dresser once I feel well enough to do it. My closet has stairsteps of clothing from 20 to 10s. Why keep the old stuff when it is outdated anyways.. Any thoughts?

I am getting close to surgery date and also have been putting away my summer clothes. I'll never wear them again! Also, I have not worked in over a year and don't plan to start looking for work again until I am down in weight and have some energy, so all those clothes are boxed and ready to go somewhere. I'll never wear them again! Currently I am wearing 2X & 3 X but after putting away my work clothes and summer clothes my closet is pretty bare. I too have decided to keep only what fits now.
I also have clothes from 10 to 24-26, stacks of stuff still to go thru. I am a clothes horse. Love to shop and buy. My sister, also a clothes horse (with money) had rny5 months ago. She sent me all her 2 and 3 x clothes right after her surgery and now another box of 1 x. She sent me a 3 piece Liz Clairborne sweater, vest, and pants in size 1x and also 1 x summer stuff. I'm going to Florida 6 wks after surgery and counting on the 1 x stuff to be just right. And I'm just waiting until the sales after the holidays to have some real fun. My husband is real scared because he knows I can get out of control with clothes.
Getting all the closes out of the closet and organized has kept me focused on the good parts of the surgery and I have not been dwelling on the scary stuff yet. We might even get the closet cleaned out in the guest room so a guest can use it!
I have some really nice clothes so if anyone wants something just let me know. I think a clothing exchange is not a bad way to go.
Kathy,
Getting organized before surgery is such a good thing to do, besides keeping your mind off of surgery. My surgery was moved up 3 weeks and I got a call that there was a cancellation the next day... the odd thing is that that weekend, I was cleaning and scrubbing everything in sight... My friends say that my body knew that it was needed to be done. And truly right now, I am not in any shape to be doing that kind of cleaning, and it feels good that my home looks great and just needs little things done here and there. It sounds great to have a sister like yours to pass clothes on to you like that, whoo hooo..... A clothing exchange is a great idea....

Hi Melissa,
Do you have a local support group that you can attend to donate clothing that you've shrunk out of? That's one very cool thing to do - I've been the fortunate recipient of LOTS of wonderful, gently used clothing from other post-ops. It can be such a great thing for both the giver and the recipient!
I know some post-ops who sell their stuff on Ebay, too. Then there's the clothing exchange here on AMOS, and we also have one over on the www.duodenalswitch.com web site, as well. And of course, Goodwill is always a good option!
Hope that helps!
Blessings,
dina
