Medical Problems & WLS

I have a consult appointment with Dr. Powell in Pasadena, CA on 10/10. I know several people who have used him and from all the information I have gathered I understand him to be very well qualified. I have many medical problems that could and would be resolved by WLS, high blood pressure, high cholestrole, foot pain etc. However, 3 years ago I had an outpatient surgery to remove a groin adhesion and things went terribly wrong. The surgeon "accidently" cut my sigmoid colon and I ended up with peritonitis. I was in ICU for several weeks, on a vent for life support and ended up having a stroke. I have overcome alot and thought I was ready for WLS. Today, I saw my doctor about some pain I was having along the incision site. He thinks it is a pinched nerve in my abdominal wall. I have a CAT scan on Wednesday. I told him of my plans to have WLS in LA and he told me with my past medical history that probably nobody would touch me. He did say that I would need surgery to get rid of the pinched nerve and maybe a highly skilled surgeon would be able to fix the pinched nerve and do the WLS. And he did say WLS would really help to get rid of my pain and health problems. So now not sure what to do. Guess I will keep consult appointment but feeling very down tonight about surgery not happening. Has anyone heard of someone with my kind of problem having successful surgeries?

Oh my goodness--I've never heard of anyone having your problem even wanted to ever have surgery again! I wish you well! Keep us posted about your appointment!! Why go to CA for your surgery? You are in my thoughts!

We tried to get into a surgeon in Portland but the weight was close to one year. My sister, brother, and SIL all had RNY with Dr. Powell In CA. Actually, my sister is a nurse in his hospital so she knows him and says he is one of the best around. We were thinking a week in Mexico sounded good but too worried about problems in a foreign country. I'm just waiting on the scan today to tell me if the abdominal problem can be repaired surgically, or for that matter, if it is even something to worry about. I'm on information overload and taking pain meds on top of that. Couple that with a 50 year old fat stroke victim and I can't even tell which way is up. LOL Life is good....in my bedroom.
