I'm in desperate need of a Lap Band fill surgeon in the Portland area! I've had my LB for several years and have done pretty well with it, loosing just about 100lbs in total... until recently! In November I started struggling with a little weight gain, and in January I started to really struggle! I'm up 30lbs!!! Which is well down the road going in the wrong direction. I had my surgery done on the east coast, and have heard it's hard to find surgeons that will take patients that have had their bands done elsewhere. I also have an insurance that is pretty limited as far as who accepts it in this area. I'm sure OHSU takes it, but I have had some pretty scary things happen there, I think because it's just so big you're not a person anymore. I'd feel a lot more comfortable going there if anyone has a specific doctor they would recommend. I'm having a pretty rough time (I broke my back last spring) and really just want to get on top of my Lap Band without it being this big ordeal finding a good doctor that doesn't herd patients in like cattle and who will take me. Any help would be MUCH appreciated!!! Thank you!!

Hey Stacy,
I have not been on the Oregon Board for awhile & just saw your message.  Not sure if you found a doctor yet in Portland.  Dr Halpin and Dr Patterson are there at Legacy Good Sam.  They both do lapbands.  Dr Patterson just finished a long-term study on them about two years ago.  You might want to check with one of them to see if they'll take you on.  Look her up here on OH.com or look up Oregon Weight Loss Surgery (OWLS) on the WWW.  Going a little South of Portland is Dr Nair (my personal fav :-) in Salem and his associate, Dr Boulay.  They are through the Salem Hospital. There are more in Eugene, but I doubt you want to go that far.  I'd really just check with OWLS or the other WL surgery clinic through Legacy.  Both have great providers.  If need be, see if your provider back East will call the ones in Portland to set it up as a referral.  Sometimes that can speed things up.

Good luck!  And welcome to the West Coast!
