Supposedly it is not covered in Oregon but I am wondering if anyone has ever managed to get approval.

They don't cover WHAT?  I had Regence BC of Oregon three years ago and they paid for my RNY.  At the time, they paid for lap band too.

They are paying for mine. I ahven't got the final approval, but they did give a preliminary approval and the doctor said he doesn't anticipate any problems getting approved. Also the recptionist at the dr's office has blue cross and they paid for hers.  Have you called your insurance company? I think blue Cross is actually one of the easier ones to get approved.

Well, I have just called them and they told me it was not covered on my husbands policy, which kind of surprised me because it is a really good policy otherwise (as far as insurance companies go).  Did you guys have to fight them?

Well, the surgeons office tried and we were denied immediately.  I am so depressed, I could cry.

It sounds like your husband's specific plan has an exclusion for weight loss surgery.  The company I work for does also.  My understanding is that you will never be successful at getting the insurance to pay when there is an exclusion.  Some people have been able to get the employer to make changes to their policy.  I tried that and my company would not even consider it.  Don't give up hope.  Good luck!

They just paid for mine on the 6th of April. It is included in my plan with 6 months of pre-surgery hoops to jump through. Sorry to hear it is not included in your husbands plan.

Depending on your company Regence will pay..but it is less places now than when I had my surgery.  In fact for about 3 years my company paid for the surgery and now they don't.  I don't think that I would have ever been able to have the surgery but I am glad that I did.
