Hello everyone,

This is my first time joining a forum for anything. I just felt this was a good place to start my journy into the world of WLS. I am here to seek INFO about insurance, doctors, WLS types. I have done research on my own but feel like I am chasing my tail.

I currently have an insurance that I can pick my own doctor through.  I do not have a Primary doctor yet. See I kinda have this fear about doctors. I have had SO MANY bad experience with them because of my weight.  I want to pick on that will listen and help me get aproved for WLS. How does one do this.

I am Living in Hillsboro Or. so if anyone has any sugestions on a Primary Md that would be great.
Any info on WLS is welcomed.

Thanks lots!

Contact Oregon Weight Loss Surgery & OHSU about their informational meetings. They will answer many of your questions or concerns.
I went thru Oregon Weight Loss & was am very pleased with both the preliminary & the post surgery care. Dr Mark Smith is great!
Best wishes for success in this journey.

Just before my surgery I got a new primary for similar reasons to yours.  I chose Dr. Heather Baskin’s at OHSU.  She is awesome and cannot recommend her highly enough.  I do pay an extra amount of money to her for this service but it is well worth the money.  I have constant access to her via phone or email, she contacts me directly not an assistant or nurse, she called me while I was in the hospital to confirm everything is going well.  I only see her or her 1 nurse.   The specific program is called Life Choice, http://www.ohsu.edu/xd/health/services/women/services/intern al-medicine/index.cfm

She recommended both programs in Portland as she works for OHSU and is friends with the department head at Legacy. She felt that they both did good work and were both Centers of Excellence. I would recommend attending both seminars, I did. Then chose the program that you feel more comfortable with. I went with OHSU because I both work for them and all my medical records are at OHSU.

Good luck with you process and research into the great tool

Hey Lulu!

I'm in Cedar Mill - not too far from Hillsboro.  If you ever want to meet up for coffee at Starbucks or something - just say the word!

I've got a list of PCPs that could perhaps be helpful to you.  Docs who specifically have WLS post-ops in their practice and are WLS friendly.  You might have to go outside of Hillsboro to find someone who fits that bill, tho.

I see Dr. Marni Foley at the Portland Clinic (on TV Hwy & Millikin in Beaverton) - she's been my PCP since WAY before my DS and has been amazing.  I love her!  But, she can be hard to get in to see - she's very, very popular.

There is a Beaverton Support Group meeting this coming Wednesday - it's open to all - pre-op or post-op, any surgery, any surgeon - please feel free to join us - I just posted the particulars here on the forum.  We welcome any/all questions.

Blessings,

dina
