I am not really new to the OH but I have been in a holding pattern for a while. I am finally meeting with Dr Patterson on Tuesday 8/25 and I am getting really excited. I am just waiting for insurance approval and the consult for scheduling a date. I am getting impatient today and feeling a little like it will never happen...I know it will if I work hard enough! Meantime, I am looking for others in my area who are or have doen WLS. I am in Beaverton and am anxious to start my life anew. I am turning 40 on Saturday and am really ready for this change!!!!! Wanna make some new friends!!!! Have a great Sunday y'all!!!!!

Welcome! I am scheduled for WLS next week. Does your Dr. have a support group? That's a good way to meet others that are considering or have had WLS. I am also 40 and looking forward to a "new" lease on life!

Congrats on your WLS date. I am going though Good Sam's program so I have tons of support. I am a busy mom of 3 boys, an 8 yr old and twin 5 yr olds. Needless to say, I will have to really squeak in times for support groups. I do see a therapist every week, and a couple of very close friends who have had RNY. I am gonna be fine. I just feel a little impatient right now...wanna get the big ball rollin' so to speak. Great to meet you here at OH. Many blessings on your weightloss journey. Hope we can chat again sometime!!!!!!

So glad you have a good support structure. I'm going through OHSU for my surgery, and they also have a great support system. I also am a mom of three. a 15yr old son and 2 girls that will soon be 2 and 3. It is difficult to get those support groups in at times, thankfully the one I goes to lists the topic for the first one and has a general meeting for the second one. That way I can decide which one I really want to go to. Good Luck on your Journey!

Hi, I too am going through Good amaritan for consult.  Although, I am planning on having a VSG with a doctor in San Francisco.  I am batteling my insurance co, due to their "investigational" bs labeling for VSG..  So funny, that here I am trying to do prevenative medicine, but that would make to much sense. lol  Good luck with  Emma, she is great at band and RNY.  I live in Tigard and have two boys 3 yrs and 5 months, so  I feel your busy pain..  Hey have you attended any of the support group sessions?  I wonder if they are any good.

I don't know about Good Samaritan but OHSU does have 3 support groups each month.  1 night one and 2 day groups. The first day group and the night group have a "topic" of interest While the 2nd day group is just a general meeting. I think they have the info up on their web site. The topic groups are usually pretty good. I'm even trying to go to the one exactly a week after surgery because the topic is How to Thrive!

good sam has a support group.  Patterson did my band surgery.  She knows what she's doing in there! Mine was video taped for student doctors and broadcast live to a seminar.  ;)

Hi, I am in Beaverton too.  I had my lapband surgery 1 year ago at OHSU.  I am a little older at 45 but kind of felt the same way-looking for a new lease on life.  78 pounds down it is getting there.  I was lucky and had no problems getting my isurance to pay for my lapband.

I have not gone to support groups really as I have felt that OHSU has a very rny focus and I am outnumbered at the meetings.  At a regional lapband get together I heard that there is a lapband group that meets at Dr. Pattersons office and have been thinking of attending that.
