Who would have thought?  Today was the annual "take a hike" day at the University of Oregon.  I have done this fitness walk (a bit more than a mile) for the last several years.  In the last few years, they have added a fun run to the festivities.  Today, as I was leaving the walk to return to my office, I saw the runners coming in.  There were two gals from our Eugene/Springfield group who were running the race!!  I was so proud, you would have thought it was me who was running.

Congratulations to Kathy and Molly for improving their fitness level to participate in a RUN!  You GO girls!  I'm so proud of you both.

Linda

May 9th was International Migratory Bird Day and here in Klamath they had a 1 mile run, 3 mile and 6.6 mile runs.  I ran the 1  mile and came in 4th!!  I have to say I was so darn proud and still am.  For the past 16 years it has been a battle with exercise and here I am I ran a mile!  Crazy and unbelievable.  So I understand your pride in the ladies from Eugene/Springfield and the joy you felt for them.  It is wonderful!

I send my Congratulations to the gals as well!!

Peace.

Congratulations Jaime!  I've had a three-level spinal fusion and my surgeon and physical therapist tell me I'll never be a runner again.  I can, however, walk as much and as far as I'd like, as long as I'm not carrying anything  .  Ah, well, the trick is to just keep moving, isn't it?  You should be very proud of yourself.

Thank you Linda! We started by just walking to Hendricks Park each day and then running downhill part of the way. Now we've worked up to running 3-5 days per week and lifting weights on the days we're not running. Yesterday I ran the furthest I've run without having to stop and walk for a couple of minutes. 20 minutes without stopping. We figure if we keep it up and improve little by little, maybe we'll be able to do a half-marathon in the next year or two.

I actually got on the message board to see if a meeting time had been posted. I realized I never saw a meeting time for May. Is there a meeting in June?
