Visiting Tigard..need suggestions
I'm taking my mom over to Tigard to visit my brothers and planning on going out to eat. Everyone likes different stuff and my brothers sure can eat so we were thinking a buffet. Does anyone know of a buffet in the Tigard area that will honor a discount for me because of my WLS? I hate going to those places and paying full price and only eating a couple of things.
Thanks,
Michelle

My surgeon gave me a business card with a note on the back that said, This patient has had WLS, please allow him/her to have half portions or order from the children's or senior's menu.
Other than that, ask for the manager, explain the situation and ask for a small salad plate and half price. Believe, they see so much waste in their business from people who abuse the "all you can eat" to just take and take and throw away. They will probably be gracious to you.
If not, write a letter the place afterwards about your experience. You will help get things changed for others.
I think I might just ask for another plate to share with my husband. People do that all the time.

I have only had one place refuse to honor my WLS card. It was at a Chinese restaurant. So, instead of ordering an entire meal for myself, I just shared one with my husband.
Sometimes I don't want to be bothered and will just order off the senior menu. But at all the buffets that I have been to, they have been more than happy to honor my request. Best place, I was at Spirit Mountain Casino. Hubby wanted to go to their fabulous buffet. I was hesitant. But they surprised me and honored my card, and only charged me $2.50 for my meal, and his was 20 bucks....can you say, I was quite pleased.
Good luck finding a place to eat!

I totally don't use any cards or ask for a discount. My philospshy is that I'm paying for the experience of going out to eat with my loved ones, and I don't really expect the business to accomodate some surgery I've had. I am enjoying what I can eat, and I'm so happy to not eat what I used to I just like to walk around and try a dab of this and that. I used to pay the full price and eat way tooooooo much, so I consider it my own decision and good luck to have had the surgery that allows me to eat only what I need to to lose my weight. I guess I just don't share the feeling that business owe me something because I can't indulge like I used to. I ate plenty more than my share when I paid the normal price prior to surgery, and my teenage son more than makes up for whatever I am not eating. Everyone feels different, but I really don't want to feel defined as a WSL patient forever. I'm not embarrassed about it, I just like to feel like one of my party like anyone else. Believe me, no one really notices what you do or don't eat. I don't like to waste money, but I just don't feel strongly that I'm entitiled to the discount. Kids and Seniors - O.K. but I'm just making my way with my new eating habits. After a couple of years I find myself eating more than a lot of people who are some kind of diet.
I don't like the quality of Old Town Buffet, though it is located on HWY 99 in Tigard. I prefer Sweet Tomatoes located off I-5 Carmen drive right in the same parking lot as Office Depot next to Home Depot. They have lots of homemade soups, salads, cottage cheese, and fairly WLS friendly fare. If your brothers need lots of meat that probably wouldn't appeal, but my son likes it there. They always have chili and past too.
Any of the places at Bridgeport would probably serve a soup entree for someone like you, and hearty stuff for the others. Appetizers are always an option. I don't know were you are at, but one of my favorites was the French Onion Soup with a salad at Red Robin at Washington Square. Also, the Applebees at Kruse Way has a whole weigh****cher menu that had great Talapia with Mango Salsa and quite a few WLS friendly entrees on that portion of the menu if not an appetizer?
enjoy!
