i am getting so excited that my date is getting closer. it seems like that is all i can think about. i am trying to find the best way to lose the weight the surgeon wants me to lose before surgery. i am hoping someone will have some suggestions on what worked for them. i am also wondering which protein drinks/bars/etc. are the best tasting and the most nutritional. please share your fav's.

What worked for me with my pre op weight loss was limiting the amount of food that I ate.  I took the suggestion from my nutritionist, and cut the size of my plate, going from a huge dinner plate, which I FILLED with food to a more realistic salad plate.  Used that and filled it only once, okay I did cheat sometimes and fill it twice, but used my will power not to do it all the time. I also took her suggestion and ate my protein first, then veggies, and finally the carbs.  Not what I was used to doing.  I would always eat my food in the reverse order of what was suggested.  Anyway, getting off track a bit....but by following ths plan, I managed to lose about 40  pounds prior to surgery....and for that I was thankful!

Best of luck................keep us posted

I am pre-op as well...well, more like hoping insurance approves it at this point.  LOL
Anyway, in the past I have used Medifast and will be using it as my pre-op diet.  It helps you shed pounds fast as well as limits your portions.  And, I just learned they have reformulated the bars so that you may have more than one bar a day and all bars contain 11g of protein. Yea!

Hope this helps!  Good luck...I am so so so excited for you!

Another thought a friend brought up who is 2 yrs post op was using Metabolife - she said some of the shakes and soups contained 17 grams of protein in one cup!!!

My surgeon suggested Lean quisines and healthy choice because the  portions are right. I was able to lose 9 pounds. I don.t like shakes.

Don't know where your surgery will be done.  However, I was not required to lose weight prior to my surgery.  But I did voluntarily load up on protein-laden foods and cut down on simple carbs.  As a result of that, I lost about 10# in the month between my consult with my surgeon and my surgery day.  I tolerated my operation very well.

All patients do get weighed in at the pre-op unit at OHSU prior to their operations.

Lean Cuisine and Healthy Choice foods are very high in carbs.
