Hey

Okay so gastric bypass surgery. was a week ago today. How happy I am its this Friday and not last.
I am off all pain meds and have no nausea or vomiting. I am actually worried because its gone so well, maybe it won't work for me. I have only lost 3 pounds. The only thing is that I am tired and dizzy. I really hope they did something other than just put holes in me.My surgery was about 4 hours so they must thave done something Are your insides supposed to feel different? Mine don't

I can keep bannanas and lactose free string cheese down.

Is it okay to keep eating them as long as I have no nausea or vomiting?

Congratulations on your surgery on Friday the 13th too!  All physicians are different about what you eat but I know I was not eating solids yet at one week.  Better check with your Doc.  You will lose weight.  Be sure to drink lots of water, that helps with the weight loss and keeps you hydrated.  Good luck.   Julia

Clark - you're going to be just fine!  Dr. O'Rourke was my doctor too, and I did really well after surgery.  I could keep food down and didn't have a lot of pain or nausea.  3 pounds lost in one week is great!  It will pick up and keep going.  We all worry that this is not going to work for us, but it does.  I lost nearly all my excess weight in the first 6 months following surgery.  I had another 40 pounds that I wanted to get off, but nothing moved for a whole year after those six months!  I'm now down another 12 pounds and feeling great.  The weight loss works a little differently for everyone.  Just follow Dr. O'Rourke's orders and you'll be fine.

Thanks to all those *****plied. I am back on just liquids because no I am not supposed to have anything like bannanas or chese yet. Telling myself to be patient. Not sure if I was made to be on a liqpid diet.

The liquid part was rough.  Probably what saved me most was that I could have jello or sugar free jello pudding.  You can also have yogurt.  I remember getting all of those things in the hospital before I left.  It at least gives you the illusion of having some real food.  If you have a Trader Joe's near you, try their own brand of 2% Greek yogurt.  It's thick and satisfying.  You can add some Splenda to it to make it sweeter, and maybe some flavor like a sugar free syrup.  Or you can mix some protein powder into it.  Just try a small spoonful at a time and see how you do.  You only have to wait about a week or two before you try more solid foods.  I think you can also have some creamed soups at this stage, can't you?  There is an organic creamy tomato soup at I think is made by Pacific Foods that is really good.

Congrats,

Walk, water and liquid.

Don't worry about the weight it will happen.  I am down 150 pounds.  I still have 30 to go.  This is the honeymoon period and it will not be this easy ther farther down the road you go.

I will keep an eye on you and we are all in this together.

Hey Reynold - I want an updated picture on your site!  I was really pleased you got your surgery and would love to see your progress.  If not - I am still very happy to hear you are down 150 pounds.  WOW!!

I am going to be five years out in a couple of months!  This surgery was so awsome.  If I can get my kids to put some pics on for me I will update.  I am still feeling so grateful and healthy!

Congratulations!  O.K. so back onto liquids, but soon enough you will graduate to foods, and when you do each little addition will seem like a feast.  I kept myself happy with sugar free popsicles.  Being tired and weak or dizzy is very normal.  You would be experiencing that with any major surgery.  I felt that way for much longer when I had a hysterectomy, which seemed like a much more minor lap surgery.  There are little holes, but they monkey around a lot in there, and your body is healing.  Also, being under for four hours is a shock to your body for a while.

Like you, I spent a lot of time trying to figure out why I felt so normal.  While there are differences in your feelings of being full, or not feeling too good when one more bite will be one too many, all the regular stuff (burping, pooping, just walking around thinking "gee I've got something new inside", etc.) never did end up feeling different.  I was so surprised I felt so normal.  I think we can be so scared of what we are doing, and so many people call it "re-routing your plumbing" which it is....but it never has felt different to me.

Worrying it's not going to work for you is a waste of your thoughts.  It's working!  In the first couple of months as long as you are following the guidlines and not feeling bad symptoms than it is working.  Thinking the scale is telling you that you are doing it wrong, or it's not working on you is not accurate.  Before you know it you will be feeling like your pants are loose, or you will see a difference in your face.  Drink your water, get your protein, take your supplements and move as you can.  Your surgeon really did do it and you are on your way!
