Okay...I'm a Y Certified Personal Trainer, Water Exercise Instructor, Arthritis Foundation Water and Land Instructor and a Senior fitness instructor. I started this Journey in 2002 at 444# and lost 211# before I had my 2 babies. I am now a SAHM and a water exercise instructor at my local gym..

My question to you all is...Would you be interested in an in home personal trainer??? If so what would you be willing to pay??? Would the fact that the trainer is one of you (post-op) make you more comfortable???

Thank you all for your input in advance...BIG HUGS!!

Deanna - while I am very cash strapped right now and live too far away from you, I can tell you that I think a traveling personal trainer would be a wonderful thing.  Especially for those of us who have been big and are/were ashamed to go to a gym.  I hope you have success in finding clients.  You GO girl!

Where's your local gym?  I think it would be a great thing to get professional advice on where to start as a post op, because so many of us have such physical pain and mental obstacles to the excercise pain.  I'm so bad at comitting to a schedule, but I know for some it would help to have a set thing to know they are going to DO IT!  What's a SAHM?

You would make any one feel comfortable, and I like me it is so important to know that if we can, we want to reach out and bring others along to find success post-op.

I have no idea about prices.  I know it costs me and my two daughters over $30 to go to the movies (of course we get popcorn).  I pay $25. for a pedicure (worth it just for the massage alone).  I pay 25. co pays on my physical therapy.  Just some comparisions of what people pay for stuff.  Sometimes I wonder why I will dish out a lot of dough for something stupid, and then get all cheap about another thing that is actually so much better for me.  Set a fair market price and don't feel bad about asking for it.  If you are there for people....hopefully they will come.

It's funny, if I have time tonight I was actually going to also write a bit about excercise post op.

Hey Patty...long time no see!! I moved to Sandy this summer so i teach water ex at Ht Hood Athletic club. SAHM is stay at home mom.

I just thought I would throw it out there and see what people would say. I know getting started is the hardest part of exercising...I really miss training and teaching full time and LOVE getting people started and even just motivated in their health career. My gym is fairly expensive on the personal training. I would really like to be reasonable...and doing it in your home would just be sooo much more comfortable.

thanks for your input!! You too Linda..

Hi Deanna:

The offer sounds tempting.  I work out with a personal trainer at a place called Spartan Gym over on 179th and Division in Gresham.  His workouts are 45 minutes for $25.00.  I train with him 2x a week.  I also occassionally do deep water aerobics at Mt. Hood aquatic center.  I also belong to LA Fitness.  They charge about $100 per month for training 1x a week.  That is still too steep for me.  What is SAHM?  I am down 300+ lbs since my surgery August 22, 2006

Wow Peggy you are doing AWESOME!!!

How do you afford all those Gym memberships!!!lol It's great that you are exercising...it's such a huge key to maintaining!! I truely adore water exercise...my joints are so wrecked from the weight and old injuries that it's my most satisfying way to get my cardio in and you still get soooo much more out of the workout than just cardio!!

SAHM is Stay at Home Mom..I have a 3 and 4 yr old!!

let me know what it would take to truely temp you!!!lol

We only belong to LA Fitness, The other place I train, Brian my trainer does'nt charge a membership fee He is also looking for clients.  By the way, I have 33 mo twins!!  A boy and a girl.  They will be 3 at the end of April.  I go in and do cardio on the days I am not training. I have a ton of saggy skin to deal with.  We put the kids in the kids club while we are exercising., so that helps alot.  I used to hate exercising, let alone stepping on the scale.  I am also a SAHM and my husband recently retired after 32 yrs at TriMet.

I joined an athletic club near my home in January.  I have been working out on weight-resistant machines, rowing machines, treadmills, and stationary recumbent bikes.  I also walk in my neighborhood or mall-walk at a nearby mall during inclement weather.

I also joined a couple of classes at the same club:  chair-assisted Yoga (I have life-long balance problems) and Group Active.  The Group Active class increases our cardio fitness, builds our strength, and improves our balance and flexibility  The same class involves 1/3 step, 1/3 lifting barbells, and 1/3 floor exercises.  The Yoga class meets twice a week; the Group Active, once a week.

I have felt a lot better physically and mentally since I started working out.  However, I have a bad cold right now because so many people (including relatives), who attended a memorial service in Eugene over the weekend, had colds.  Consequently, I am working out lightly for now until I get over my cold.

Good job Vicki!!!
Way to get out and get movin'!!! The chair assisted classes can really be awesome...I Think they surprise people and give you so much more confidence and security as you build the muscle you've lost. The class I taught moved from chairs to exerballs...it was really inspiring to see my class make that change.

Deanna,
I might be interested, but I am a working girl, and have significant time restraints. I live In Eagle Creek and work in Gresham. In years past, I was able to get up early and go to the club, but have found I can't do that anymore. I need to get into an exercise routine, but can't get much enthusiasm or time for it. I have started walking at work when I can. It would all depend on scheduling and cost.
