Hi, i am Lisa from Astoria. I have had one appt. with Good Sam where i did blood work and written tests, and this coming Tue and Wed i will have the four appts that include: psych, nutritionist, phys therapy and the nurse practicioner.
I was hoping someone could comment who has been through this process about what to possibly expect this week and maybe afterwards as well.
Thanks

Go**** has been a little over a year since I had my surgery,so I will tell you what I rememb3er. They psych test is given the first day of your appointments and you meet with the psych person to go over the results the following day. The testing takes about an hour and some of the questions seem pretty repetitive.  But, it gives them a pretty good "FEEL" about you. If all goes well, the pysch person willl recommend your for surgery.
The nutritionist goes over your eating habits and encourages you to begin to make healthly diet changes before your surgery.  I took to heart what she recommended and switched from a huge dinner plate for my main meal to using just a salad plate, rarely going for seconds. It worked like a charm and I was able to lose quite a bit of weight pre surgery. Which was great.
The physical therapist will  talk to you about your physical activity.  I was very inactive...so she suggested that I begin walking....just walking.  For the first couple of weeks, I could hardly walk to the end of the block.  But that soon changed, and my walking was distance was further and further each day.
The nurse practioner pretty much gives you a physical and addresses any issues you may have.
If you get glowing reports from all the above, you will be a candidate for surgery.  I had to go back and visit with the nutritionist and PT before I was allowed to have surgery. At the time, I was upset about the delay,  but looking back, I know they had my best interest at heart.
From the time I actually met with the surgeon until surgery was about 8 weeks.......
All total, I attended my seminar in June 07, met with the 4 people mid August then back for second set of appointments in early September.  Met with surgeon in October and had surgery in December.   I could have had surgery in late November, but it didn't work with my schedule.

Best of luck on your weigh loss journey.  Any questions, please ask..........
BTW, which Dr. is going to do your surgery. I had Dr. Patterson and she was wonderful, but have seen Dr. Halpin for some of my follow up visits and she is great too!!!!
Keep us posted on your progress!

Lisa:  Forgot to ask you which surgery you are considering?  And which Dr?  Both are wonderful!
