surgery went well today
Ok just to keep you guys up on the posts Jen had her first eye surgery today and it looks like a sucess. when they opened up the sheth around her optical nerve it really relived fluids so hopefully on the 18th we will have the other eye done and it will save what is left of her eyesight. I have been talking to her about having a gastric bypass but she is on OHP and it will be a fight because she does not have diabetes, but I think with appeals we may be able to pull it off as its much cheaper than weekly lumbar punctures multipal shuts to be removed a month later due to staff infection, and that has been just the last year. 5 brain surgerys in 8 months, one because the oncall surgon forgot something in her head.
they say if she can loose weight it may reverse this condition but seems no matter what we do she just gains, besides being very depressed and sneaking food to self medicate she is pretty much house bound and burns little calories.
MY girl needs a miracle
well I wil keep you posted
Patty. I cannot find your phone # I texted Tee today hoping she can get you a message. I hope she still has the same number

Aw Kelly - I think it's well worth asking and then filing appeals with OHP to get WLS for her. It sounds like it would go a long way towards saving her life and will eventually save OHP a lot of money. You and Jen are in my prayers. I hope the next surgery goes as well.

Glad you got through the first surgery. May the second go as well. I can't imagine why OHP would require that ONLY people with a co-morbidity of diabetes qualify for gastric bypass. This is far more serious than some cases of diabetes that are in control. Also, I think time is of the essence and any appeal should be done with some kind of assurance that the time factor is being considered. Again, where is the surgeons and neuro people doing all of her care? They should be helping you expedite getting WLS ASAP, because though it's not absolute, weight loss is considered to be a first line denfense in helping with this condition. Activity to lose the weight is tough, because activity provokes headaches when you have intercranial hypertension. Her depression is undersandable from so many directions. Maybe the weight coming off would give her some hope and motivation that things can get better. I'm sure there has been testing for her thyroid, but if not an endro work up would be warranted for sure. Make an appointment with Dr. Jan (get in with the "I'm a patient of Dr. Jan's") and plead his help in getting her in. Got to pull out all the stops at this point.
Hang in there mama. You guys will get to a better place.
I'll send you my number.
