Looks like lymphedema to me.  Do a search engine on lymphedema treatments.

I had very swollen ankles and legs prior to surgery,  It does sound like Lymphedema,  Have your PCP perscribe some support hose.  Should help some.  I had custom fit ones made for me.  It may sound like you might need lasix or something for fluid retention, Please don't quote me, I am not a medical professional, but It might be what you need.  Talk to your dr.

Good luck  PS.  There is nothing to be scared of.

Just saw my pc about this very subject. Check your salt intake. 2300mg max per day. I'm on HCTZ for woter retention. Hope this helps.
Blessings!

I have had the problem for years.  It is mostly my left leg (or it swells the worst anyway).  I have had limited success with water pills, and support socks (I did get the over the counter ones from a pharmacy).  When I got fit (walking 2.2 miles 7 days a week) it got better.  When i slacked off and regained some weight it got worse again.  I am hoping that my post-lap band self will get back to this.  I have also noticed that when I don't get enough sleep or travel too long in a car or airplane they get bad.

If you pay attention you might be able to figure out some of the triggers and monitor them.  I wear my socks when i am on a road trip or a long flight and it helps some.  The best for me is to sleep 8 hours a night if i can at all accompli****  Oh and of course the thing I am having a hard time doing-walking again regularly.
