Hi...just starting the process
Hi, everyone. I am just starting the whole WLS process and in my research I found this Oregon-related forum, so thought I would toss out a hello. I've had my initial eval with surgeon in Springfield and have to wait over 2 mos. until I can get the dietician and psych evals. Always makes me wonder, "what, crazy people can't get skinny?!" Ah, but I know why the eval, just looking for some humor...to mask the nerves I s'pose. Hope to "talk" to you all over the weeks...months...to come.
Welcome Cathy! Yes, it's very important for the doctors to determine that you're ready for surgery, but in my opinion the things they ask don't do much in making sure you're prepared. I hope the process ends up going by pretty quickly for you. I remember the waiting being the hardest part!

Welcome Cathy,
If you want to "Speed up" the process, find out if you have to have your psych eval done through them or if you can have an independent one. Many people go into their 1st appointment with that part knocked out of the way already.
Welcome to the 1st part of your new life to come:)

Thanks, everyone, for the words of encouragement. The waiting (for now) IS the hardest part. But that, of course, will change once the day is here. I'd post a pic but haven't figured out how to post one or to post a ticker. Us newbs are such pain, huh?
My doc gave me the added stipulation (besides losing 10 lbs before the surgery) to also get my blood sugars under control. Gosh, that's the main reason I want the surgery. I can't seem to
GET them under control. Ah, well, I guess it will all work out in the end.
Thanks again!

Welcome! I'm also pre-op. I've gotten several of my pre-op requirements done...had my psych test and eval, EKG, labs (which showed I have H.Pylori, low iron, low vitamin D, bordering on low thyroid, and have elevated liver enzymes), physical, and got my starting weight so that I can start my diet. I had the appointment with the sleep study dr today and have my actual sleep study scheduled for November 5th and have my appointments with the nutritionist and physical therapist on the 29th of this month, so then I will be done with all my pre-op stuff and it will just be up to losing the full amount of weight required and seeing if there are any other tests they want me to do. I'm anxious to get done with it all and get approved and have a date set!!

Hi, Melody--Looks like you will get your surgery way before me. I was lucky, though, in that I don't have to have a sleep study or a physical therapist eval. I just have to get the psych and nutritional evals. The surgeon also said at my 10/7 appt. that I have to lose 10 lbs (4 down, 6 to go!) AND lower my blood sugar, so that may take me the full 7 weeks, but it's going down pretty nicely right now. I just had my lowest reading in months--79 !!
Good luck on your surgery. Hope it is soon. Let me know how you are doing. -- Cathy W.
