I just heard through my insurance that you have to have a 6 month documented weight loss. ughhh no one told me that. Anyone with bcbs pebb? Im freaking out because my husband wants to quit his job and I need this surgery

Well I have Regence BC/BS pebb, and while I could be wrong, my understanding was that you had to lose greater than 5% of your bodyweight within the 6 months prior to surgery, so I don't think that it has to take 6 months to do it.  Again, I could be wrong, but that was how I had understood it, just that you had to lose a certain amount of your weight before you could be scheduled for the surgery?  Have you called the insurance company?  I called and talked to them and wasn't told that, but didn't ask about that specifically either.  They were really helpful when I called though, so I would just call and ask someone there, then document the conversation.  Good luck!

Thank you so much.  Well at least we are on the same page. I thought the same thing. I will call again at another time. Thanks for responding.

I too have bcbs pebb (regence). I had to lose 5%, meet with a counselor and a dietitian. That was it.
My secondary insurance GEHA originally told me the 6th month thing of recorded dieting, however since they are secondary, they don't require it.

I have BCBS PEBB. I had to lose 5% of my weight with in the 6 months before surgery. But before I did that I had to go to pre-op appt. with NUT, psych, NP and have psych test. that is approved seperately. I had no problem with the approval process. (except that it took longer than I expected.3 weeks) By the way, I went through OWLS at legacy good sam in portland and they were extremely helpful. The whole proccess took me only 3 months.

I hear you!  I started my adventure in April this year and just got my date last friday.  The 5 year weight record for my insurance was helpful in my case, I think.  My BMI was low (37.5)at 237 lbs in April but I was at  250 in previous years, so that may have helped in the decison making.  The time flew by for me.  I just feel so lucky that I was able to fiannly qualify!
