5 seromas and a bout of cellulites later....

Well it has been a bit of a bumpy ride for me after PS.  I had multiple procedures performed on 7/15 and was progressing well, but have had complications as well.

I have a total of 5 seromas which are fluid filled pockets that form.  Sometimes they are very small and will resolve themselves, other times they need to be drained.  4 of the 5 are located on my inner thighs and knees and need to be drained.  I also have Cellulites, an inflamtion of the cell walls.  It has manifested itself on my right leg in two locations.  The treatment it to rest with my legs elevated above my heart and take strong antibiotics.

The seromas were drained yesterday.  I have one that has an opening to the surface and I was able to evacuate it myself, but the rest need to be excised.

Otherwise I'm doing well, but this is cramping my recovery which is taking much longer than prior surgeries.

Unfortunately Im not a very patient patient!  LOL.

So sorry to hear about your rough recovery. I've had 3 bouts of cellulitis over the last 20 years and know how frustrating it can be. Due to the leg elevation needs, you can't do very much other than sleep, read (light weight books) and sleep. I mostly slept.

I hope this resolves for you soon and you can get back to an active life.

Ah, Trisha, I understand the impatience.  I hope these latest set-backs go away soon!

Linda,

Thank you for your concern.  As of today the Cellulitis is all but gone.  The seromas will take more time as they must be drained once per week.  Each time they should be smaller until they no longer exist!

I'm working toward becoming a certified OH group leader for this area.  I see that you have become one as well!!

Back i***** I checked myself into Legacy Emanuel hospital.  I had cellulitis really bad on my left leg.  I had no idea what in the heck it was.  I ended up with kidney failure and wound up on dialysis for 16 days.  No fun.  I had a catheter in my neck, and I felt like an alian.  In 1997, I was in a head on car wreck, ( we hit a dump truck head-on)  My then husband lost his life, I wound up with 2 broken legs, several broken ribs and a fractured right arm.  Talk about a nightmare.  Back then I weighed over 525 lbs.

I had my RNY 2 yrs ago, and since then, I have lost close to 300 lbs.  I feel greatful to be alive!!

WOW!!!!!

I can certainly understand how you are grateful to be alive!!  And to have lost nearly 300 lbs is fantastic!

Unfortunately once one has had Cellulitis one is more prone to its development again--even if you are of normal weight!  I've had it now a total of 3 times in my life.  Because I recognize the symptoms I've been able to get on it immediately so I've never been hospitalized for it.  You too will always recognize the symptoms so that you can get on top of it early and not have to be hospitalized again should you ever be unlucky enough to get it again.

I am so very happy for you!  What a wonderful outcome you are having and will continue to have.

Trisha
PS--just an update...the Cellulitis is all but gone however these seromas will be hanging around for just a bit.  They take much longer to clear up.  It isn't preventing me for being active however.

Hey Lori!

How is it going at week one after surgery?  You getting your water in?  Having any problems?

I went to the Dr. today and they "drained the swamp" of my seromas.  There was less fluid in there than last week so that is a good thing.  I wish I could get my energy levels back though!!  Sooooo tired most of the time.

I really enjoyed meeting you and look forward to seeing you again!

Let me know if there is anything I can do for you!

Things are going very well!  I can't believe how wonderful I feel at just a little over a week from having my surgery.  I am having no problems getting my fluid in and my protein drinks are doing great too.  When is the next support group meeting in McMinnville?  I really want to come.

The next support group will be held on 9/4 (a week from today) Thursday at 6:00 PM at the Willamette Valley Hospital.  We meet in a room adjacent to the cafeteria and would love for you to attend.

So glad to hear all is going well.
