Getting the all the protein in that we need to have on a daily basis is hard to do when so much of it tastes awful.
I have found low calorie, high protein shakes,  juices,  puddings, bars, smoothies, chips, cookies, jerkee, and they taste amazing!
If you are interested stop by the two locations close to you and check them out, they offer free samples to taste.
One is located in Albany, and one in South Salem. Let me know if you are interested and I can send you the address for both locations.
I had Gastric Bypass Surgery 4 yrs ago, I remember the frustration I went through because I could not find a protein bars or shakes that I liked. I live in Eugene and had my surgery at OHSU.
I was at 302lbs when I had WLS and I've lost 132 lbs and have kept it off.
There are also two locations in Eugene, one in Roseburg, one in Florence, six in the Portland area. They also have the complete Vitamin B complex injection available.
I really hope this does not come across as a sales pitch, it is not my intention at all.
Let me know if you are interested.
Belive me I've been where you are.

HI, So in Albany the address is 1970 14th Ave SE Suite 120. It is located next the Willamette Valley Bank and Safeway is real close.
The address in S. Salem is 5686 Commerical St. SE Suite #100. It is located next to West Coast Bank and also close to a Safeway.
The Manager at Albany clinic is Lori, and in Salem Clinic Managers name is Jenny. You can ask them or any one working htere about the food and ask for samples of the bars and chips and snacks. You will be shocked at how good they taste. One of our bars is the Crisp and Crunch Fudge graham Bar it has 160 cal and 15 grams of protein, 18 crabs, and 6 grams of sugar and its  a big bar.
If you get to Eugene much stop by and see me at my clinic I'm located at 1860 Coburg Rd.
i could get the info about receiving the vit B injection also, or you can ask about when you go into any of these clinic's.
If you decide to checking one of the clinics out please let me know what you think. Have great weekend!

You can order protein samples from the following:

Unjury:
http://www.unjury.com
Bariatric Eating:
http://www.bariatriceating.com
VitaLady:
http://www.vitalady.com

I have read in other forums of others *****ceived free samples directly from manufacturers by stating that they're candidates for WLS.

Before my surgery, I ordered a minimum number of samples from Vitalady.com to be drank as a post-op.  So far, I have drank all those that I ordered.

The following are the flavors that I like :
- Champion Nutrition Pure Whey Stack "banana scream" (bought a tub from vitalady.com)
- SynTrax Nectar "cappuccino" (bought a tub on sale at the local Vitamin Shoppe store)
- SynTrax Nectar "fuzzy navel" (bought a tub on sale at the local Vitamin Shoppe store)
- Champion Nutrition Pure Whey Stack "tropical sunrise" (tastes sort of like Orange Julius--no plans to buy tub at this time)
- SciFit Econo "ice cream banana" (no plans to buy tub)

The following are the flavors that I don't like  (all taste like baboons' butts! ):
- SynTrax Nectar "roadside lemonade" (will stick with the lemonade flavors of Crystal Light)
- Champion Nutrition Pure Whey Stack "cookies & creme" (will stick with the DQ Blizzard)
- Unjury "chocolate" (one other DSer gave me a sample shortly before my surgery and I consumed it the week after my surgery)

I mix the "banana scream" and "fuzzy navel" with half-and-half.  Both taste better that way than when I mixed them with water.  The rest were mixed with water.

A vitalady.com sample is equivalent to about 1 or 1.5 servings.  Read each label.

None of the samples from vitalady.com has an expiry date but they should.  Therefore, I dated them as of the month/year I received them and should use them up within a year.

One of my protein tubs that I bought in 2008 has an expiry date of sometime in 2010, so it should be OK for now.

Note to pre-ops:  If you want to buy the samples, then go for it!  However, keep in mind that your taste buds may change after surgery.  So those that you liked as a pre-op, you might not like them at all as a post-op!

As for delivery, my orders are received the day after FedEx Home picks them up at her house.  My last order was picked up around 2 PM and delivered to my door before 9:30 AM the next day.

Hope this helps!

Vicki

DS (lap) with Dr. Clifford Deveney. Cholecystectomy (lap) with Dr. Clifford Deveney 19 months post-op.

Has not weighed myself since 1/2010.  Letting my clothes gauge my progress instead.

There is a website that has all the proteins that taste pretty decent all in one place... you can go there and shop... no I'm not saying you have to buy there, but they actually do their research and do taste test all this stuff, so most of it is pretty decent, just keep in mind it is ALL personal taste :P

Check out Bariatriceating.com and look for their protein pages.  I know a lot of people bash Susan Maria's site, they don't like that she advertises on this site blah blah blah, but... she does do her research on the products *shrug*.

Matrix, Syntrax, Isopure (the new bottled premade) all make pretty decent tasting stuff.

I buy all of my protein online at a variety of different websites.

The protein part is the MOST important aspect of the surgery guys, and if we can't get enough from food, we have to supplement with real protein powders (preferrably whey protein isolate) according to our nutritionists.

But we don't have to suffer *grin*  I make awesome SF "frappacinos" at home with unflavored protein and sf syrups, or hot Chai with vanilla cinammon protein powder mixed in, etc... there are a ton of choices, but it took me a lot of experimenting to find stuff I will drink every day.

So don't give up!  Bottoms up all hehe  Oh, and if anyone wants brands or recipes let's exchange, I'm always looking for new ideas too :)
