BCBS Oregon covering DS?

Does anybody know if BCBS Oregon covers DS?  Thanks!

I think it depends on where you are getting your coverage. I am a Higher Ed employee (at Oregon State), and we are covered for RNY and Lap band, but not DS. I believe some people with BCBS have no coverage for WLS at all.

My employer actually has an exclusion for all WLS.  I am preparing to ask them to change the exclusion, but wonder if BCBS Oregon covers DS on any of their plans.  Otherwise my plea may be pointless unless my employer is willing to  change insurance all together.  I imagine that will be a much tougher request.  Thanks for your response!

You can actually appeal the BCBS decision in order to get your DS. Doesn't mean that you will certainly win in the end but at least you have the option of fighting if you are denied flat out. There are lots of resources on the DS board that talk about the appeal process. I only know because I will be appealing Kaiser for my DS once they deny me. I don't have any suggestions on appealing your employer other than just gathering the info and bringing it to them showing how much it would benefit them to keep you from taking time off due to health issues caused by obesity.

HI,  I have BCBS of Oregon and had my surgery almost two years ago with Dr. Steven Tersigni in Coos Bay Oregon,  they have an exclusion in their policy that covers no weight loss. 
I was self pay and it has been rough, but I would do it again in a heart beat!!    Itried to get them to cover my surgery RYN but they did not.
