Deb - I think it will all depend on where in the state you are.  Trisha (gogogirl) uses Julia Hansen, the head of plastic surgery at OHSU, and I think she likes her very much.  Julia W had a tummy tuck and eyelid work done with Dr. Jewel down here in Eugene and her results were very good.  I'd go for a couple of consults if I were you and see who you like the best.  I'm actually considering surgery in Mexico (at CosMed), because they are so much less expensive and I have a friend who had her surgery there and she is very happy.

Thanks Linda. I think I might be scared to go to Mexico...but how much cheaper is it? Because don't you have the travel costs to consider also? I live at the coast so the closest place for me is Corvallis, but it is such a major thing I would drive to Portland or Eugene if needed. Thanks for the info!! Right now I am not far enough along to proceed but I already have some idea what I am going to need and want to sort of plan ahead.

I have met Dr. Jewell.  I thought he was very nice and his assistant was nice too.  I haven't had him do anyrthing to me, so I can't speak for his work personally, but he came very highly recommended.  I hope that helps!

I had a consult with Hansen. Didn't go with her.

OHSU is a teaching hospital so the surgeons supervise the surgeries. Trisha has had recent revisions. No thanks.

I went to Mike Bohley at Adventist (actually across the street) He has his own suite, his pricing is great and his work is that of an artist.

He is a doctor of the hard to find kind: one that cares about the outcome, understands needs of the post-WLS patient and he is just nice. Great staff.

Others I consulted Elisha B and another Doc somewhere in that area whose name is forgotten.

I did a lot of research before deciding. A lot.

Thanks Tee, what did you have done? I want a consult on everything but my face/neck is bothering me the most...

So I was hoping to find someone who does a really good job with facelifts...I don't want to look too tight or anything. Plus for folks who have had facial ps, how was your healing and how did you cover the scars??

I had neck, lower face, LBL, abdominoplasty, breast reduction, lipo, panni over 3 years. LOTS of redundant skin. Insurance covered all.

For help on insurance issues  and other women's issues, I have a women's board at another message board. Not sure I can post address, but you can reach me with your addy if interested.

Scars are behind the ear and in natural folds. No need to hide what is not seen.  Healing took longer than I expected but was not painful. All skin flat and normal texture in about 7 months.

Deb,

This last round of PS was masterful.  It also went WAY beyond the scope of what had been agreed to.....way beyond and would NOT have been considered revisions and yet that is how she coded them.  What that means is....they were for free.

Yes, OHSU is a teaching hospital, but Hansen is there every minute of the surgery performing as well as teaching.  She has been beyond compassionate!  There is another surgeon in her dept who specializes in the face and neck.  I "believe" it is Dr. Anderson.  I originally had that area as a concern, but time and a couple other factors improved the area so much that I didn't need to have a LFL.

Trisha, it looks like you are about my age. So are you saying that your face got better over time? If so what sort of factors helped? Was it just the time passing? I would love to know. Thanks.

Three things helped mine.....1) Time.  Your skin changes over time and what was once baggy become less so2)  Weight training.  I know this sounds funny, but by weight lifting I exercised my neck and that helped tone it3)  Mona Vie.  This is a supercharged nutritional drink that I actually use as a mask on my face and neck.  I saw what it had done for my best friend and liked the result.  Even my PS said whatever I was doing to keep doing it because it seemed to be working!
