surgery in Oregon or Cali?
I think the number of visits made to your doctor are pretty standard across the U.S. I would imagine the biggest difference is what kind of weight loss surgery you have. I am having lapband so I will be in to the doctors office fairly frequently for fills and checks to make sure my stomach is working properly. RNY people probably know this better than I but you will at least have to go in for 2 or 3 preop visits for tests and consultations plus a 2 week, 6 week and yearly check on your procedure. Weight loss surgery is not just about a one time event and you are done. You have to take care of yourself -make sure you are getting all the vitamins and minerals necessary and to make sure any equipment (in the case of lapband) are working properly.
I dont mind having to go in to see the doctor frequently! If it helps me reach my weight loss goals after a lifetime of unsuccessful dieting I am more than ready to visit the doctor a few times. Heck I went to weigh****chers every week for 2 years and spend hundreds of dollars. visiting the doctor will be a piece of cake.
I only had one psych appointment. I had a pre-op with the Nurse Practitioner and Dietician, a pre-op class, and a pre-op appointment with the surgeon. Then of course there was the sleep study, and I had to have a cardiologist appointment because I had an abnormal EKG.

Looks like you're asking if we had to go thru 12 psychological evaluations in order to have WLS. I had to go thru only 1 session with OHSU in Portland. Since my surgery, I have the option of going thru more psychological sessions as I lose weight and my body changes, plus my relationships with people change.
