Surgery Huge Success
Hi everyone, Wow what a great experience surgery has been. Dr O'Rourke is an amazing surgeon. I am so very grateful that he was the one that did my surgery. I am home and doing great. I am off all pain meds and getting around the house great.
I have had my first WOW moment post surgery. My blood sugar is testing out at 108 this evening. Yeah!!!! and that is unmedicated. I was on a glucose IV drip in the hospital and bood sugar was high so now all of the glucose is out of my system I am NORMAL. I have also dropped 7 lbs since tuesday morning. WOW. Biggest WOW of all I AM NOT HUNGRY. This is the 4th of July holiday and food does not interest me.
My personal challenge is to sip all of the water that I am suppose to drink everyday. Was not hugh on my list before surgery now it is a must. So I am meditating on the gold of the future water. How blessed we are to have running water to swallow every moment of every day. See I know I can get the importance of drinking it.
My sister who had surgery 1 1/2 years ago is amazed at how great I am doing. She said she was in great pain for a couple of weeks after surgery and that it was very difficult getting up and down. I have not had any real problems with getting up and down at all. I feel so very blessed. I would wish that everyone having this surgery could have such an easy recovery time as I am having. I am fully engaged in learning how to eat a new way and let the real Linda out to play. I have been buried in all of this fat way to long. Thanks for letting me go on and on. Also thank you for all of the great support emails and postings. Love Linda
Congratulations, Linda!!!
The best we can hope for is an experience like you had with the surgery.
You are doing so well and your experience is an encouragement for the rest of us waiting.
I look forward to reading about your progress,
Vicki
PS - what a great support system you have with your husband and family, as well. AWESOME!

Linda - I am so very happy for you. I had pain after RNY, but it was mostly from the three bad discs in my back and the awful hospital bed they put me in. It gave me a wild ride and made my back pain worse. I got better very quickly after getting home. I am glad to hear the good news about your blood sugar. Dr. O'Rourke is just great. I ran a bit of a fever after surgery and when he came to see me the look of concern on his face was apparent. He stuck with me, coming back several times until the fever was totally gone. I was very glad of his skill, along with his assistant Dr. Kim. You are in for the best journey of your life. Here's to you and Taylor enjoying life for many, many years to come!

Thank you so very much for your kind words. I also feel very blessed. Taylor is a champion of a man. I believe that we are in for such a grand time growing old together. My family is 100% behind my endeavors and I know that makes a huge difference in the outcome of major changes.
Your wisdom on the post on this website are definnetly invaluable to me. I was so scarred when I started this journey 1 1/2 years ago. Everyone who has posted their experiences have given me a priceless education. When I went in for surgery I was ready to do my part. I was fully prepared to take on doing what I was told to do and believe and trust that things would be awsome. This has been my experience so far.
I had a surgery partner in the room with me who did not have such good support and she had not fully prepared herself for what she was there to do. Her experience was very different than mine. We both had the same surgeon. She had lap band and I had RNY. I suggested she look up this website and get help with the way her new life would be headed. I know if not for all of you my experience may have been more like hers. THANK YOU ALL. Linda
Hi Linda, You are in for the ride of your life congratulation. It took me 1 1/2 years to finally get surgery. I felt angry and frustrated. However in the end it was the best thing for me. I ended up with double insurance and my surgery is 100% covered. Incredible. And by the time I had surgery I was totally ready. I continued with the education learning every day preparing myself for this new life style. So hang in there and enjoy the ride. Linda
Linda, glad to see that your surgery was successful and you tolerated it very well!
The nurses tested my blood sugar several times a day, even in the middle of the nite, altho I don't have diabetes. It was artificially high for the first couple of days because of the 3 or 4 IVs that were up, but it went down once the IVs were disconnected. However, the IV port was left in my arm until several hours before I was discharged. I still have the needle scar from the IV port after 8 weeks out.
Glad to see that you're still doing very well!
Vicki
