Oh if it were only that easy.  Which doctor did you see?  Your regular doctor, or a weight loss surgeon?  If you saw the surgeon, have you done all your pre-op testing?  This usually includes a sleep test, blood work, EKG, upper endoscopy, colonoscopy (depending on your age), etc.  Also, does your insurance have specific requirements for surgery and do you meet them all.  The pre-op process is probably the most difficult part of the whole thing.  Get your ducks in a row, and you'll do fine. I have Kaiser and had RNY August 22, 2006.  If you are in the beginning stages of this surgery, get ready for a ride.  Are you doing the surgery thru Kaiser Sunnyside?  They make you go thru either a 5 week or 12 week program called "freedom  from diets", then you will have many appts with the dietician and medical social worker, ( depending on how much you weigh), you will have to probably lose 10% of your weight, They need this done to make sure your liver is'nt fatty., they need the room to be able to do the surgery. It took me 18 months to get from orientation to an appointment with the surgeon.  I started out at 526 lbs, and now weigh 234 lbs.  It is an amazing journey once you have the surgery. If you have any questions, please feel free to E-mail me. Good luck, Peggy

Which Dr. did you see?  I take it you've been thru all the appointments with Julie Brenda and Mary Lou, correct?  Was it your primary care physician who told you you were a good candidate for surgery, or was it one of the bariatric surgeons ?  If it was one of the surgeons, they would have set you up for an appointment for surgery.I am just curious. If they tell you that you are a candidate for the surgery, it means they'll do it if you get all you approvals.  Your biggest hurdle will be approval from your insurance company.  They may have prerequisites that you'll need to do, like a class or a certain amount of weight loss, etc.  Sounds like you're getting close though! I know -- you said that.  What I'm saying is, when your INSURANCE company says you're approved, then you're approved.  Not before.  The surgeon is not going to do your surgery unless he knows he's going to get paid. Linda
