I was wondering . For you RNYers, how long after surgery was it before you could drive.  Thanks Taylor

Hi there, It was about a week and half before I tried it. And then I only drove for a little bit to run errands that I could do without getting out of the car. After a few days, getting in and out was okay, but reaching over to pull the door shut was a little tricky, so I learned pretty quickly to pull it close to me as I was getting in instead of leaving it fully open and having to reach out. It was a little uncomfortable sitting upright for any period of time, so just take it easy and don't pu**** Wish you luck! Oh yeah, make sure you're totally off your pain meds before you try!

I was driving a week after surgery.  Just off long enough to let that anesthesia clear from my brain. Linda

I was told no driving while on the pain meds. I had liquid vicadin which tastes like crap, so I only used it about 2 days. So I felt fine driving by about 3 days after surgery.

I didn't have the RNY.  However, I drove to the pharmacy the day I came home from the hospital.  Otherwise, I drove further than 2 miles out at 15 days post-op when I drove to my follow-up appt with Dr. D. I was prescribed narcotic pain med at discharge from the hospital but refused it at the pharmacy.

Has not weighed myself since 1/2010.  Letting my clothes gauge my progress instead.
